The Kingmaker My Fiance Sold Me To My Broke Ex Chapter 04
AlvinÂ
The engines of the Abyss rumbled low as the yacht prepared to leave the filthy waters around Paradise Island.Â
I hated this place.Â
Vic Carson, that brain–dead idiot, had actually thought a few perfume–drenched girls and one bankrupt heiress would be enough to make Vance Capital ease up on an international shipping route.Â
Did he really think people on Wall Street made business decisions with their dick?Â
“Mr. Vance! Wait! Mr. Alvin!”Â
On the private dock, Vic came scrambling toward us in a panic.Â
My security team immediately stepped in and blocked him from getting any closer.Â
I thought I made myself very clear on the phone, Mr. Carson,” I said coolly. “Pioneer Group doesn’t evenÂ
meet Wall Street’s minimum standards for professional competence. I don’t do business with men who treat dealmaking like pimping.”Â
No, no, that’s not what this is! Please, just hear me out!” Vic wiped the sweat from his forehead withÂ
shaking hands. “It was all a misunderstanding! I know you hate stuck–up rich girls more than anything. I swear, I never meant to offend you!”Â
gave a cold laugh and was about to tell my men to throw him off the boat when something at the edge of my vision caught my attention.Â
The cliffs in the distance.Â
Just now, I could have sworn I saw a figure fall into the open water.Â
What happened over there?” I narrowed my eyes. And don’t tell me your precious Paradise Island is involved in more than illegal sex–and–money deals. I‘ d hate to find out murder’s on the menu too.”Â
Vic followed the direction of my gaze. His face went white for a split second, but then he forced out a cruel smile.Â
“Oh, that?” he said quickly. “Just some worthless. bitch who didn’t know when to quit.” He almost sounded eager to please me. “Mr. Vance, didn’t you say you couldn’t stand spoiled little heiresses? That‘ special dessert‘ I mentioned was a bankrupt rich girlÂ
who tried to scam me into marrying her. My people are taking care of her right now. Think of it as my apology to you.”Â
My grip tightened around the whiskey glass.Â
“Taking care of her?” My voice came out dangerously low. “Explain.”Â
“Hah. Her family already filed for bankruptcy protection, and she still strutted around like she was better than everyone.” Vic smirked, getting more confident with every word. “Her daddy spoiled her rotten. She grew up thinking all of the Upper EastÂ
Side revolved around her. She actually thought she could use that pretty face to seduce powerful men and claw her way back up. Pathetic. I had my people take her into the woods behind the hill and get rid of her. She probably tried to run and fell off the cliff herself.”Â
Then his lips formed a name that sent ice straight through my body. “Eve Rockwood. Trash like that deserves to die-”Â
grash!Â
The crystal glass slipped from my hand and shattered, Ive.Â
The woman who once kissed me in a hospital room… then stomped my dignity into the dirt when I had nothing, and turned around to throw herself into another man’s arms.Â
The woman I had hated for five straight years. The woman I still couldn’t forget on a single sleepless night.Â
Just then, the ocean wind shifted. The yacht’s searchlight swept over the water.Â
And there, drifting between the waves, I saw a red ribbon.Â
The edges were worn now.Â
Five years ago, I’d bought it from a street vendor with my last ten dollars and awkwardly tied it in her blonde hair. I had assumed she’d thrown that cheap thing in the trash years ago. But she had kept it.Â
And now it was floating on the surface of the sea.Â
“What the hell did you do to her?” I grabbed Vic by the collar. “Did you touch her?”Â
“Mr. Vance–cough–have you lost your mind?” Vic struggled in terror. “Weren’t you the one who said you hated-”Â
I drove my fist straight into his face. “If one hair on her head is out of place, I’ll bury you and Pioneer Group with her.”Â
tore off my suit jacket, ignoring the alarmed shouts from my men. “Boss! It’s too dangerous! The water’s freezing!”Â
I couldn’t hear them.Â
All I could see was that red ribbon and the afterimage of Eve falling from the cliff, over and over, burning through my mind.Â
