The Female Boss They Tried to Rob Chapter 03
GIULIA’S POV
The moment I opened the door, Mirella, Carlo, and Enzo barged inside.
“Giulia Bellandi, your mother said you have a set of
fourteen ten–ounce gold bars in this house,” Mirella demanded.
“Bring them out right now.”
I looked at Mom.
She offered a timid explanation.
“I only asked them to come take a look. We can sit down and work this out as a family.”
“I’m not working anything out with her!”
Mirella dropped onto my couch and glared at me.
“If you’d handed over the gold in the first place, I
might have thanked you.”
“But you humiliated me in front of the entire family.
Gold isn’t enough anymore.”
“You’re paying for Enzo’s entire wedding too.”
She shot Enzo a look.
He shamelessly sent a list of expenses to my phone.
“We’re family, so I’m not trying to make this difficult for you.”
“We’re expecting two hundred guests. Budget six hundred dollars a person for the meal.”
“Dom Perignon will be fine for the champagne.”
I laughed in disbelief.
These people truly believed I was their personal ATM.
“If you can’t afford a wedding, don’t have one. Stop
coming to my house to beg.”
Enzo’s expression changed.
“Don’t mistake the family’s patience for weakness,
you bitter old bitch.”
“No man wants you. I didn’t complain that your gold
might bring bad luck to my wedding, and now you
think you can look down on me?”
I gave him a scornful glance.
“Bad luck is still better than being a beggar.”
“Stop using all that bullshit about respect to guilt me
into paying for your life.”
“You’re nothing but a shameless parasite.”
“What did you say? Say it again!”
Carlo grabbed me by the collar and tightened his grip until I couldn’t breathe.
“Let’s talk about this. Don’t hit her!” Mom rushed forward.
Carlo shoved her to the floor.
“This is the daughter you raised!”
“Her father’s gone. As her uncle, I have every right to teach her to respect the family!”
“She humiliated me in front of everyone. I’ll discipline her in her dead father’s place.”
“I came here for the gold tonight. If she won’t give it to me, I’ll tear this dump apart!”
I shook with rage as I shoved and dragged them toward the door.
“Get out! You don’t get to come into my home and threaten me!”
Mirella lunged at me and grabbed my hair.
She forced my head toward the floor.
“You ungrateful little bitch! How dare you touch me?”
“We’re not leaving until you hand over the gold.”
“Let’s see which one of us breaks first!”
I threw my weight forward and knocked her off balance.
The next second, Carlo drove his fist into my left eye.
I fell backward.
Blood immediately poured from my nose.
His fists rained down on me.
Pain darkened my vision, and I couldn’t breathe.
“Giulia!”
Mom threw herself over me, wailing and crying.
But she did nothing as Carlo’s family tore through my bedroom.
Through my blurred vision, I saw them push aside my
nightstand and find the hidden compartment.
Mirella pulled out the case containing the gold.
She kicked me triumphantly.
“Stupid bitch.”
“We asked nicely, but you had to turn it into this.”
Still cursing, she stuffed the bars into a bag.
Then she followed Carlo and Enzo toward the door.
“Put them down!”
I forced my head up.
“This is robbery!”
Mirella laughed.
“How can it be robbery when we’re family?”
I glared at her.
“Put them down, or I’m calling the police!”
She laughed even harder.
“Go ahead. This is a family matter. Let’s see if the cops care.”
She patted the backpack holding my gold and stepped
directly over my face on her way out.
Mom helped me off the floor.
“Let it go, Giulia. We’re all family.”
I was so furious I could barely hold the phone.
My fingers trembled as I dialed 911.
“Someone broke into my home and stole $566,000 worth of gold.”
