The Clean-Freak Alpha’s Dirty Secret Love Chapter 07
I dropped the warm smile I’d worn for his parents and replied flatly.
“That’s none of your business.”
He gritted his teeth, as if bracing himself.
“I swear I’ll never see Flora again.”
I looked at him..
Not angry. Not hurt.
“That’s none of my business either.”
He always made promises only after he’d already lost me.
When he had me, he chose to hurt me over and over.
I didn’t believe his promises anymore.
Just as I reached the door, a gust of wind swept behind me-
Waldo grabbed my wrist.
“I’m sorry, Janet. Please don’t go. I’m begging you…”
He held me so tightly, like I was the last rope he had to hold onto.
Only then did I turn and study him carefully.
His shirt buttons were misaligned. Dark circles ringed his eyes.
Stubble shadowed his jaw.
He was a far cry from the untouchable, perfect Alpha he used to be.
I yanked my hand free. Pulled a wipe from my pocket and scrubbed my wrist, over and over.
“Waldo. Don’t disgust me anymore.”
He stared at my motion, his eyes reddening, as if tears were about to spill.
I quickly adjusted to life on the border.
Every morning I handled emails and meetings. In the afternoons, I
walked with my mother along the border. On weekends, we strolled by the lake.
Her health was improving. I stopped dwelling on the ugliness of the past.
Life was getting better. We were both looking ahead.
One day, I got a call from a former colleague.
‘Janet, we miss you so much. Work was so much easier when you were here.”
After some small talk, she complained, “Flora has been a nightmare!”
“That alliance plan you wrote–the elders put Flora in charge of
executing it. But the team did all the work. She took all the credit.”
“She even represented Duskclaw Pack at a joint dinner. But she
didn’t check Alpha Thorne’s dietary restrictions. He ate something
he was allergic to and ended up in the pack medical center.”
“The alliance with Blackwood Pack is ruined. Alpha Thorne is
furious. He’s put Duskclaw Pack in a real bind.”
Flora’s incompetence didn’t surprise me.
“Waldo always protected her,” I said casually. “She never had to
worry about anything.”
“Well, even the Alpha can’t save her now!” My colleague laughed
with relish. “The Alpha King personally ordered her expulsion from
Duskclaw Pack.”
“She refused to leave at first. She cried in the office all afternoon.”
“In the end, she left. But we’re all stuck cleaning up her mess.”
I offered some comforting words and promised to bring back local
specialties when I visited.
I’d barely hung up when a message notification lit up.
It was Flora.
Janet, can you lend me some money? I know a million isn’t much to you.”
Flora had to pay back eight hundred thousand in damages to
Duskclaw Pack.
I hadn’t expected her to ask me for help.
Without hesitating, I deleted and blocked her contact.
Of course, I would have helped any friend.
But we were no longer friends.
