Swapping Parents Every September, But They Only Choose My Sister Chapter 06

Swapping Parents Every September, But They Only Choose My Sister Chapter 06

After I finished making my bed and climbed down, my three roommates stood too.

“Come on. Let’s get dinner at the dining hall!”

I paused.

“Were you waiting for me?”

The girl across from me linked her arm through mine.

We’ve all traveled here from different packs. Being assigned to the same room has to mean something.

From now on, this is our little household. We can’t leave anyone behind on our first day.”

My eyes suddenly grew hot.

Our little household…

Was this what a real family was like? One that never casually left a member behind?

One September, the day Arden and I were due to switch homes fell on the same day as an interpack math competition.

I still went to the restaurant early, ordered everyone’s favorite dishes, explained every dietary restriction, and only then left for the competition.

When it ended, I ran all the way back to the restaurant.

Nothing remained on the table but cold scraps.

Mom pointed at the mess. “Eat.”

As if she were tossing leftovers to a rogue pup.

I followed my roommates across the Royal Frostvale campus.

Silver wolf banners welcoming new students lined the paths, and howls carried from the distant training grounds.

For the first time in years, I felt warmth spread through me.

The world was wide open. Why should I stay chained to a family that had never loved me?

When Dad called again, I answered.

Aveline! You’re already at Royal Frostvale. Why didn’t you tell us?

And you ran all the way to the North. You…”

I cut him off.

“Haven’t you dreaded every September because neither of you wanted to be responsible for me?

‘You won’t have to worry about that anymore.”

My bluntness left Dad speechless.

Mom took the phone. “Why did you block me? Because we

didn’t ask about your graduation or academy applications? You could’ve told us.”

I gave a cold laugh.

“Would telling you have changed anything?

“I asked you to attend my parent conferences for ten years. Did either of you ever listen?”

Humiliation turned Mom’s anger sharper. “What kind of attitude is that? Do you not want us to pay your tuition?

I answered calmly.

Royal Frostvale gave me an SSS scholarship. It covers all tuition, housing, and living expenses.

The academy even provided everything I need for the dorm.

You never have to dread ending up with me in the annual handoff again. That’s all. Don’t contact me. We’ll all be happier that way.”

You…”

ended the call and blocked Dad too.

The Aveline who had spent eighteen years waiting for them to choose her was finally gone.

said goodbye to her.

I would never be her again.
