Sold My Fiance, Crashed His Wedding Chapter 08

**Scarlett’s POV**

“Alright,” I say. “Lead the way.”

Jax opens the car door and slides into the passenger seat. “You’re driving. Go wherever.”

I slide into the driver’s seat. The engine roars to life.

Julian never let me touch the wheel. Women weren’t safe drivers, he said. I needed to sit in the back and look proper. But now I floor it and the car tears into the night.

We hit one–twenty on the empty highway. Stop at a taco stand in some alley, eat standing on the curb. Hit an underground club where the bass is so loud I can scream and no one hears.

At two in the morning, we’re sitting on the roof of an abandoned building.

All the things Julian would call beneath me make me feel alive for the first time.

“We’ve met before,” Jax says out of nowhere, I turn to look at him.

“Three years ago. The Whitmore charity gala. Your sister told everyone your dress was tacky, that you didn’t know the rules.” Jax’s voice stays even. “He was standing right next to you. You looked at him, waiting for him to say something. He just frowned and said, ‘Sorry, she’s still learning.”

The memory hits hard. I remember the beige dress Julian picked out, Celeste’s mockery, everyone’s eyes on me.

“I thought right then, you shouldn’t be trapped like that.”

don’t say anything. Just tip my head back and drink.

He remembered for three years. Julian never remembered what I actually liked.

By the time we get back to my building, the sky’s turning light.

Julian’s black car sits at the curb.

My chest tightens. Jax stiffens the second he spots it.

Julian gets out. He looks like hell. Stubble, bloodshot eyes, suit wrinkled like he slept in it.

“Scarlett.” His voice comes out rough. “Come home with me.”

I don’t move. Stay exactly where I am, standing next to Jax.

Julian walks toward us. Then he stops and looks at Jax his eyes turning ice–cold.

“Who the hell do you think you are?”

Jax steps forward, puts himself between us. “I’m the one she chose to be with. Not you.”

Julian swings. Jax takes the hit and swings back. They trash together, fists hitting flesh. The sound is brutal in the quiet morning.

“Stop!” I yell.

They don’t. Not until Julian’s security pulls them apart.

Julian stands, wipes blood from his mouth. He pulls a document from his pocket and throws it at my feet.

“Read that.”

I pick it up. The header reads Debt Guarantee Agreement.

“Your father made you the collateral for that ten million. According to the contract, until the wedding’s done, you’re legally my property.”

My fingers tighten on the paper. That bastard. He really would do anything.

Julian’s security steps closer, tone professional. “Ma’am, please get in the car. Otherwise we’ll call the police and handle this as a debt dispute.”

Jax moves forward. Julian raises a hand to stop him.

“Go ahead and try. I’ve got ten legal teams. How many do you have?”

I look at Jax and shake my head. “Don’t.”

Then I walk to the car myself.

Julian takes me to his private estate here.

expect anger, punishment. Instead he has the chef prepare an elaborate dinner, all high–end dishes.

He pulls out my chair, pours wine, playing the gentleman.

I look at the spread. “So you think this is what I want?”

Julian frowns. “I got you the best…”

“The best? By whose standard?” I cut him off. “I just had a five–dollar taco from a street cart and it made me happier than this ten–thousand–dollar spread. You get that? You have no idea what I actually want.”

Julian’s hand freezes on the wine bottle.

I stand and walk over to him. Close enough to see the in his eyes.

Let me ask you something.”

“What?”

“Do you love me?”

Julian freezes, “Of course.”

“Then look me in the eye and say ‘I love you.‘ Mean it, The silence stretches.

Julian opens his mouth. “I…”

I keep going. “I’ve known you for ten years. If you really loved me, it would’ve happened already. You wouldn’t be standing here today trying to convince yourself you do.”

Julian takes a deep breath. Straightens. Looks into my eyes.

“Scarlett Winters, I… I…”

He can’t finish.

Because it’s not true. Even he knows it.

What you feel isn’t love, Julian. It’s possession. Control. That if–I–can’t–have–you–no–one–can obsession.” I step back. “When you really love.

someone, you want them happy. Even if that happiness doesn’t come from you. But you? You just want me to live the way you decide.”
