Sacrificed to My Sister: The Mate They Stole From Me Chapter 04
At nine the next morning. I stood outside the High Councilor’s office.
“Harper Vance, I have reviewed your file.” The Councilor, a
sharp eyed woman in her forties, looked up at me. “You
ranked first in Interpack Law, and your combat assessment,
placed you fourth in your class. You qualify for the Blackwood
Pack Exchange Program.”
Before she finished, the door swung open.
Chloe and Kaelen walked in one after the other.
Chloe smiled, dimples appearing in her cheeks.
Councilor, I need to speak with you. I have some concerns. about Harper.”
The Councilor frowned. “What kind of concerns?”
“Harper used an online relationship to interfere with her
sister’s mate bond. What she did was completely out of line.”
Kaelen got straight to the point. He pulled out his phone and
thrust the screen toward the Councilor.
Here is the proof. It has already spread across PackNet.”
The Councilor took the phone.
I knew the video all too well.
I looked pale and desperate while Gideon stared at me with disgust.
The Councilor lowered the phone and looked at me.
“What happened before this video was taken?”
“She tried to steal her sister’s mate, and now she wants to
play innocent?” Kaelen sneered. “The video says it all. She was
practically begging him to take her as a secondary mate.”
I refused to scramble for excuses. I simply met the Councilor’s eyes.
“Councilor, I have evidence of my own. Give me time to bring it in.”
She considered me for two seconds, then nodded.
“Go home for now, Harper. We’ll finish the paperwork once this is cleared up.”
I left the office.
Chloe followed and grabbed my sleeve.
“Don’t be mad, Harper. I can’t stand the thought of you leaving.”
I stopped and looked back at her. “Really?”
“Of course.”
Her eyes shone.
“It is just that Ellie will be heartbroken if you leave.”
“Will she be heartbroken because I am gone, or because she
did not get my place in the exchange program?”
Her smile froze.
Kaelen came up behind us and wrenched my shoulder around.
“Can you go one damn day without tearing Ellie down? She
worked for months to train under an Alpha, and she even
found a position for you because she wanted to help!”
“Which pack?”
“Ironclaw,” he said slowly. “Out in the Borderlands. The base
pay is solid, and once you prove your loyalty, there are
bonuses. Sounds pretty generous, doesn’t it?”
I nodded. “Fine.”
My quick agreement caught Kaelen off guard. He hesitated.
“You will go?”
‘Yes. I just need to pack and tell my roommate.”
They exchanged a look. They thought I had finally surrendered.
Chloe tugged at my sleeve again and gave me a sugary smile.
“Go on, then. We can have dinner together tonight, okay?”
“Sure.”
I turned toward the dorms.
Once I was out of sight, I pulled out my phone and booked an
eight o’clock flight to Blackwood Territory.
The confirmation appeared on my screen.
I shoved my phone into my pocket and hurried back to my room.
Forty five minutes later, I locked my suitcase and wheeled it but of the dorm.
I opened the full recording I had exported the night before
and emailed it to Ironclaw Pack’s official council address.
In the subject line, I typed:
Subject: [Evidence of Misconduct by Protégé Candidate Ellie Vance.]
Then I hit send.
I put my phone away and headed for the academy gates with
my suitcase rolling behind me.
A cab waited at the curb. The driver loaded my suitcase into the trunk.
I looked back at the academy one last time.
The familiar faces. The manipulation. The endless
humiliation. None of it mattered anymore.
I climbed into the cab and closed the door.
My flight landed at ten thirty that night.
The moment my phone regained service, messages flooded in
Thirty seven missed calls.
One hundred forty two unread messages.
They were from Mom, Dad, and Ellie.
