Oops, We’re Both Alphas Chapter 04
The whole rooм seemed to be dyed amber, so intense it almost messed with my senses.
I stood there, my heart pounding a little faster.
His presence was like a warm breeze, wrapping Ground Me completely.
“Ms. Johnson, please begin your search,” the host said.
breathing.
was nervous, too.
Midsummer day.
“Ethan, can you try to control yourself a bit?” I called
out.
“I–I am trying,” he stammered.
His voice came from somewhere to my left, shaky with nerves.
“Ever since the collar came off, I just can’t seem to hold back,” he admitted.
“What happens if you can’t hold back?” I asked.
“It would…” Ethan faltered.
He swallowed hard.
“I just really want to hold you,” he admitted.
The live chat exploded.
The server crashed for three seconds.
[He said it. He actually said it.]
[A top Alpha wants to hug another top Alpha.]
(This is such a beautiful Moment.]
I followed the scent and walked right toward him.
After three steps, my fingers touched his chest.
His heart was pounding like a drum.
“Found you,” I said.
I pulled off the blindfold and met his eyes, which were glistening with emotion.
His face was bright red, his neck flushed pink, and his Adam’s apple bobbed nervously.
“Babe,” Ethan said.
His voice was husky.
“Can I hug you?” he asked.
I leaned in and gently pulled him into a quick hug before letting go.
I turned to the camera and said, “Challenge complete.”
Then I turned and walked out of the challenge room.
Behind Me, I heard Ethan’s voice, frustrated and pleading.
“Seriously? That’s all? Babe, come back.” Ethan called
out.
On the fourth day. [Ethan Wants a Hug] shot straight to the top of the trending list.
The production team went wild.
The director sent me a message.
The director’s Message read: [Ms. Johnson, we’ve I already smashed this week’s target. For the next few
days, just do whatever you want, think of it as a vacation.]
I sat on the guest room bed, staring at my hands.
I could still feel the warmth of that brief hug lingering
on my arms.
His scent clung to my clothes, My hair, My skin, like a gentle imprint he’d left behind.
Two Alphas, there was no way we could form that kind of bond. Everyone knew that only an Alpha could leave a mental mark on an Omega.
But ever since that night, there’s been a subtle, persistent swelling at the back of my neck.
The cedar scent wasn’t as sharp and cold as before. Now, there was an inexplicable restlessness Mixed in.
I messaged Dr. Evans, My old private doctor.
I wrote: [Dr. Evans, is it possible for one Alpha to have a reaction similar to a mental bond with another Alpha?]
It took him a while to reply.
Dr. Evans finally Messaged back: [Ms. Johnson, that’s really not my field. Maybe you should talk to a therapist about it.]
Just as I was about to put my phone down, he sent another message.
Dr. Evans replied: [There are cases like this out there. but none of them ever formed a genuine mental bond.]
I replied: [Why?)
Dr. Evans replied: [An Alpha’s mental barrier is an instinctive defense mechanism. It can’t be broken by another Alpha. Unless.]
He added: [Unless the mental structure of one of them
is fundamentally different from a normal Alpha.]
I read the Message three times, then opened my contacts and scrolled to My MOM’s number.
“Mom, what am I, really?” I asked.
There was a three–second silence on the other end.
“Huh? What are you talking about?” Mom asked.
“My secondary gender. What did the doctor say when I first presented?” I asked.
There was a long silence.
MOM sighed. “The doctor never said you were an Alpha,” she finally said.
My heart skipped a beat.
“He said you have a ‘special mental constitution,” MOM said.
“You present as an Alpha on the surface, and your pheromones have Alpha traits, too. But your Mental field has no barriers, it’s naturally open and can accept anyone’s mental mark,” she explained.
“That’s a one in ten million chance,” Mom added.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked.
“You always wanted to be an Alpha. When you were six, you already said you didn’t want to be an Omega at all,” Mom replied.
“You even thought Omegas‘ heats were just a hassle,” she added.
“The doctor said it would probably never manifest in your lifetime, and you wouldn’t have to worry about heats. Your Mental field might be open, but it’s incredibly picky, not anyone could make your soul accept them.”
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
“Mom, right now, there’s an SSS–level Alpha who’s absolutely determined to leave his mental mark on Me,” I said.
There was a five–second silence.
“Oh shoot, my soup’s boiling over. Gotta go, talk later.” Mom said in a rush.
And just like that, she hung up.
I stared at my phone’s black screen, my lips twitching in disbelief.
Special Mental constitution.
On the surface, I was an Alpha, but my mental field could accept another Alpha’s mental mark.
Only I knew this secret.
Ethan didn’t know, the production team didn’t know, and neither did the sixty million viewers watching the livestream.
I buried my face in my hands.
Oh crap. I was so screwed.
On the fifth day, the show rolled out a new segment: the “Truth ROOM.”
Each couple went into a private booth to answer questions, and their answers would be played back for both of them that night.
This was the show’s most famous segment, and the one most likely to stir up drama. In the first three seasons, at least four couples moved to separate rooms after this round.
