My Sister And I Both Fell For The Mafia Twins Chapter 05
After a moment, he stood.
No. He should go check on her himself.
Something icy pressed against his cheek.
Vittoria stood in front of him with two cold sodas, glaring.
“Can you focus on our date for once?”
“You’re my fiancé now. What am I supposed to think when you’re worrying about another woman during our date?”
Tommaso was still frowning, his face tight with unease.
Her eyes shifted. Then she softened her voice.
“Stop worrying. You already sent family security. What could possibly happen?”
“And our guards are good. Maybe she misunderstood the situation.”
Vittoria pushed one soda into Tommaso’s hand and hooked her arm through his.
“Come on. The movie’s about to start.”
She was right.
Armed security patrolled the Romano residential
district every night. In theory, nothing serious should happen there.
Tommaso convinced himself of the same thing.
He checked his phone one last time, then followed
Vittoria into the theater.
Halfway through the movie, his phone rang.
They had rented the entire late–night screening, so he had never silenced it.
He stepped outside. The instant he answered, his eyes flew open.
“Hello, is this Mr. Tommaso Romano?”
“We sent a team to the address you provided, but the woman was not there.”
“We found one attacker dead at the scene, along with signs of a firefight near the entrance to the alley…”
“What?”
Tommaso ran all the way back.
Cabs were scarce at that hour, and he could not bear to wait even one minute.
The head of family security told him that a border gang
was retaliating against the Romanos. Several
warehouses and clubs had been hit that night, and shots had even been exchanged near the port.
And Alessia… had vanished.
By the time the security chief finished, every trace of color had drained from Tommaso’s face.
“How could this happen…?”
He whispered the words, unable to stop one terrible possibility after another from tearing through his mind.
Then he remembered something and fumbled for his phone.
His hands shook so badly that it slipped again and again.
The moment he caught it, Tommaso called her.
Beep. Beep.
After two rings, an automated message said the phone was turned off.
Alessia, where are you?
Panic closed around Tommaso’s heart.
He had been only ten minutes away. Regret tore through him for not going to her immediately.
He knew better than anyone that during an attack like this, every minute of delay could cost someone their life.
Yet when it happened, he had been eating hot dogs less than a mile from the alley.
With Alessia’s sister, Vittoria.
Words of agony rose to Tommaso’s lips again and again, but none would come out.
The taste of iron flooded his throat.
He staggered back two steps, hit the wall, and slid to the floor.
Vittoria hurried over. “I’d be devastated if she’s dead too, but the living matter more now!”
“Get away from me!” Tommaso threw off her hand. Vittoria stared at him in shock.
A tear slipped between the fingers covering his face.
“No. I don’t believe it. Use every family resource we have. Find her!”
“Bring her back…”
At last, a report was placed in front of Tommaso.
Alessia was alive.
But she had already left Chicago and boarded a flight to Paris.
She had also left a property settlement agreement in the drawer.
The apartment, the car, the jewelry–she wanted none of it.
