My Fiance Kept a Mermaid, and She Thought She Owned My Home Chapter 05
It took Calder another three seconds to notice her legs.
His eyes nearly bugged out.
“Hold on.”
“WHY DO YOU HAVE LEGS?!”
He spun around.
“Where did my giant fish go?!”
Bonnie had even picked out a pink dress for the occasion.
She twirled happily in front of him.
“Calder, look at my legs!”
“Aren’t they beautiful?”
“Tell me the truth. You’re completely obsessed with me now, aren’t you?”
Calder barely heard her.
He dropped onto the couch and started furiously tapping at his phone.
“I knew it!”
“I’m filing a fraud claim.”
“Three million dollars, and I got scammed by some woman
pretending to be a mermaid?”
“What is wrong with people online these days?”
Bonnie stared at him, confused.
Then she moved closer.
Her voice softened.
“Calder… I’m pregnant.”
“Aren’t you happy?”
Calder’s head snapped up.
His eyes went huge.
He sprang off the couch and stared at her slightly rounded stomach.
“So THAT’S why you grew legs?”
“You got pregnant and turned human?”
Bonnie blushed and nodded.
“Well, not exactly. I really did it because of you-‘
Calder let out a cheer.
Locked in the storage room, I nearly developed an aneurysm.
And I had defended this man. I’d actually convinced myself
Calder would NEVER do something that depraved.
Then he heard the word pregnant and lit up like a proud father.
SCUMBAG.
I was mentally tearing him apart when he asked,
“Bonnie, don’t fish lay hundreds of eggs at a time?”
“Can mermaids do that too?”
Bonnie’s face turned crimson.
She swatted at his chest, blushing.
“Calder!”
“This is my first pregnancy. How would I know?”
Then Calder somehow made the situation even weirder.
“Bonnie, I’ve been thinking.”
“What if I call you Penny from now on?”
She blinked.
“Penny?”
He nodded enthusiastically.
She smiled.
“I love it.”
“If it’s a name you chose for me, of course I love it.”
Orson and I looked at each other in the darkness. Ah. There it was.
I finally understood why Bonnie had spent months
convincing herself she was living inside a grand romance.
These two had NEVER been participating in the same conversation.
One innocent little mermaid wanted to become a mother.
One morally bankrupt fish tycoon wanted to become obscenely rich.
Apparently, Orson couldn’t take another second of it.
“He banged his head against the wall.
BANG!
The sound finally made Calder turn toward the storage room.
