My Family Sacrificed My Sister Chapter 05
Second, I take over the Vance family’s internal security
committee. The chairman’s office expenses will be fully
audited, and everyone involved in the St. Mary’s incident will
be handed over to me.”
Dominic slammed his gold–plated pistol on the table. “This is
outrageous! I am the Don of the Vance family!”
I stared back at him coldly. “In front of the elders, you’re just
a suspect under audit.”
The elders had been unhappy with Dominic’s authoritarian
rule for years, but they’d lacked the power to challenge him.
Now I’d flipped the table, and they were happy to pile on.
When the vote came in, Dominic’s face was ashen.
The motion passed.
I closed the video feed.
Outside the conference room, Eleanor had been waiting for a long time.
She was wearing the same clothes from the night before, her
hair disheveled, her eyes swollen. She’d lost every trace of the
Vance family Donna.
“Vesper, I want to see Camilla.”
“No.“
She grabbed my arm, crying. “I’m her mother.”
I handed her a stack of photos.
Maria had sent them the night before.
The basement maid’s room had mold creeping up the
corners, and the blanket was so thin it was barely there.
Camilla’s dresses had been cut to shreds and stuffed into trash bags.
The family album she treasured most had been dumped in a
bucket of water, the photos reduced to a pulpy mess.
And there was a bottle of strong painkillers hidden under her torn pillow.
Eleanor’s hands started shaking as she looked through them.
“I didn’t know… I didn’t know she was living like this.”
“You didn’t know?”
I laughed.
“She told you she was cold, and you called her delicate, She
said someone cut up her clothes, and you accused her of
framing Sienna. She cried that no one believed her, and you
said she’d stolen twenty years from Sienna and should be grateful.”
Eleanor’s face went white.
I pulled out a copy of the surgical consent form.
Her name was on the signature line–Eleanor.
“Did you not know about this either?”
She stumbled backward like someone had ripped out her spine.
“The doctor said Sienna couldn’t wait… I thought Camilla was
just throwing a tantrum… She was always so good, so obedient…”
I stared at her. “She was good. That doesn’t mean she should be butchered.”
Eleanor clutched her chest, sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.
I didn’t soften.
They were all complicit.
The next evening, Julian came to the hospital.
His suit was still immaculate, but there were red veins in his
eyes. “Vesper, we need to talk.”
I’d just come from the ICU.
Camilla still hadn’t woken up.
Her hands were covered in needle marks, her wrists so thin
they felt like twigs.
I wasn’t in the mood.
“You’ve got three minutes.”
Julian swallowed his irritation.
I admit the St. Mary’s process was flawed, but I arranged that
transfer because Sienna’s condition was critical. The
legitimate hospitals move too slowly with ethics reviews, and
Camilla refused to communicate.”
“So you bypassed the review?”
He frowned. “I was trying to save a life.”
“Whose life?”
He didn’t answer.
answered for him. “To save your precious new sister–the
one who polishes the family name–while securing the
Moretti marriage alliance and holding onto your spot as first in line to the Vance throne!”
Julian’s face darkened. “Do you have to make everything sound so sordid?”
I played an audio file,
It was from St. Mary’s internal communications, recovered by my team.
“Julian said to keep the part where the patient resisted out of the file.”
Did you increase the sedative before anesthesia? Make sure
she doesn’t fight again.”
The color drained from Julian’s face.
He opened his mouth. “I didn’t know they used medication.”
Did you not know, or did you not want to know?”
I watched him.
“You wanted the result. You just didn’t care how dirty the
process got.”
He was quiet for a long time. His voice came out hoarse. “I
didn’t think it would go this far.”
I threw a second file at him.
“Your money laundering at the black market docks is wide
open. The auditors are already in, your approval authority is
suspended, and your office will be sealed.”
Julian’s head snapped up. “You’re going to destroy me?”
said calmly, “You handed me the knife.”
He gripped the file, his knuckles white.
Finally, he asked quietly,.“When Camilla wakes up, can I see her?”
“No.”
I walked past him.
He said from behind me, “I’m her brother.”
stopped. “You were her brother when they took her to the
operating room too.”
I didn’t look back.
