My Ex-Fiance The Detective Who Arrested Me Chapter 07
She’d recoiled too hard. Blood was already seeping
through the gauze.
Arthur hit the call button.
A doctor rushed in.
In the chaos, Arthur cuffed my wrists.
“Wasn’t stabbing her enough? Now you’re showing up
at the hospital to terrorize her?”
“She’s done nothing but look out for you. How could
you do this to her?”
My eyes filled with tears. But my
throat locked. Not a single word came out.
All I could do was shake my head.
Clara’s medical report came back fast.
The wound had missed every vital organ. Nothing
critical.
Now, back in the interrogation room, Arthur held up
that same report.
His voice was shaking.
“Hazel, you have no medical training. How could you
stab someone and miss every vital organ?”
“You didn’t stab Clara. She grabbed your hand and did
it to herself. Didn’t she?”
The comments on the live feed went wild.
[WHAT. okay this is insane why would Clara fake being
stabbed by Hazel??]
[omg what if Hazel caught Clara doing something and Clara turned it into a jealousy thing so Arthur would
side with her and not believe Hazel??]
[doesn’t matter though. Hazel’s still tied to that
black–market organ ring. there’s no getting around that]
Arthur came over and crouched beside me.
He took my cuffed hands in both of his.
His tears hit the back of my hand, hot enough to sting.
“Hazel, tell me. After Clara refused to testify and the
DA got you released, why did you disappear?”
I didn’t answer. I just closed my eyes.
It was too late.
Justice three years too late wasn’t justice at all.
But the memories dragged me back anyway.
After three days in a holding cell, the DA dropped the case because Clara refused to testify.
I walked out in a daze. Arthur wasn’t there.
Neither was Clara.
It was Samuel Harrison. One of Clara’s colleagues.
He said, “Arthur couldn’t make it. He sent me to pick
you up.”
I didn’t think twice. I got in the car. A sweet, chemical
smell hit me, and everything went black.
When I woke up, I was in another country.
The center of Clara’s black–market organ ring.
I tried to run. Samuel’s men beat me down. He held up
a photo of my mom.
That’s when Clara’s words finally made sense.
“Let’s see how righteous you are when you’re the one
backed into a corner.”
Something hot and metallic rose in my throat.
I couldn’t swallow it back.
I doubled over and spat blood.
She’d been lying. Clara hadn’t fallen into this life. She chose it.
And now she was dragging me down with her.
But my mom’s life was on the line. I had no choice.
If I gave in, if I became what she wanted, would she finally leave my mom alone?
I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.
To keep my mom alive, I handed over the first cooler myself.
Samuel started laughing.
He lifted his phone. “Clara, she broke.”
“She just sold her own mom.”
