Moonveil’s New Queen Chapter 02
Nathan was my mate.
Normally, he was a man of remarkable restraint.
But today–knowing full well I’d been called back to
Moonveil Pack Holdings as CEO–he’d asked me to swallow
humiliation from a power–tripping secretary.
I’d already sensed something was off.
Now I knew. He’d been enabling her on purpose.
Stella noticed I was frozen. She poked my shoulder. “You
hear me?”
“Scram before the Alpha’s meeting ends.”
“Otherwise, you know how he is. He sees me getting
picked on? He’ll ruin you in this entire industry.”
When she reached out, I caught a flash of white on her wrist.
A watch.
Wasn’t that the luxury timepiece Nathan had asked me to
buy last month? Said it was a birthday gift for his mother,
Mrs. Vale.
Only ten existed worldwide.
The white–strap version was one of a kind. He’d
mentioned his mother loved it, and I’d bought it without a second thought.
And now it was on Stella’s wrist.
What else was there to figure out?
I took a breath and slapped her hand away. My voice was
ice. “Fine. Go get Nathan. Tell him to say that to my face.”
“I’d like to see if he dares.”
The hallway went dead quiet.
Then Stella shrieked, pointing at me. “How dare you use
the Alpha’s full name!”
“Someone of your rank? An intern? You think you can just
demand to see him?”
She frowned, eyes going sharp and sneering. “I get it now.”
“You came here chasing the Alpha, didn’t you?”
“First you pull the special treatment act with the executive
elevator, then you drop his full name in front of everyone.
You’re trying to get his attention, aren’t you? Pulling the
Cinderella routine?”
“As if you could seduce the Alpha. Look at yourself.”
I didn’t argue. I just watched her, cold.
She took my silence for guilt and preened even harder.
She circled me slowly, eyes dragging over every inch of my frame.
Sarcasm oozed off every word.
“I’ve met women like you a hundred times over.”
“Dress plainly, pretend you’re untouchable–you think
that’ll catch the Alpha’s eye?”
“Nice try, honey. The Alpha’s got high standards. I’m the
only woman on this floor he lets near him.”
I stared her down. Anger coiled tight in my chest. “I’m
here to work. Not to fight over an Alpha.”
“And as for that elevator? The privilege restriction is
canceled. Effective today.”
Stella went red. “Who do you think you are? What gives
you the right to overturn my rules?”
“I’ve been at the Alpha’s side for ten years. Started at
reception, worked my way up to EA. Those rules have been
in place for years.”
“How dare you stand there and spout nonsense!”
A woman with glasses stepped in from the edge of the crowd.
She tugged gently at my sleeve,
“Honey, just listen to Stella, okay?”
“I’ve worked on the sixty–third floor for years. Always
taken the service elevator. It’s fine.”
“Sixty–third floor?” I paused. “The service elevator only
goes up to sixty–three. How’d you get up here?”
She glanced nervously at Stella. “Stairs. Five flights. It’s
just exercise. Don’t fight her on this.”
“If you just apologize nicely, she won’t hold it against you.”
Stairs? Five flights?
Because of a rule Stella had made up?
I turned to the woman. “This is workplace discrimination.
Have you ever tried filing a complaint?”
Next thing I knew, Stella slapped her hard across the face.
“So what if I make her take the stairs?”
“You’ve worked here all these years and never made
executive. Can’t ride the Alpha Floor elevator because
you’re useless. And you dare complain?”
“Open your mouth again and you’re fired too.”
