Chapter 6
But over time, the Regina I knew slowly disappeared. What remained was who she really was all along.
“Ronald, lower her first,” Regina said, tugging on his sleeve. “I want to talk to her.”
Ronald nodded. I was slowly lowered to the ground, but the ropes stayed tight around me.
Regina stepped closer. She lowered her voice so that only I could hear. “Friend? I never saw you as a friend. What do you even have? You have nothing.
“Did you really think you saved Me? You were just a stepping stone. Someone like you deserved to die.”
I stared at her as if she were a stranger.
Before I could say anything, Regina suddenly stepped back. Her face changed to one full of hurt. “Ronald,
she insulted me.”
Ronald did not hesitate. He kicked me hard in the chest. Pain exploded through me, and my face twisted.
Before I could recover, they hoisted me back up into
the air.
They were not in a rush. They wanted to enjoy it. They wanted to watch me struggle.
Time passed slowly. Finally, Regina looked like she was ready to say something.
Just then, one of Ronald’s Men ran over, out of breath. “Mr. Cress, this is bad. She’s been live–streaming the
whole time.”
Ronald froze. His first thought went straight to his family. “What did my parents say?”
The man said nothing. He just shoved his phone in front of Ronald. On the screen was a notice from the Cress family. They were cutting ties with him.
Ronald’s face drained of color. He looked like he
Might collapse. Regina’s voice sounded distant as she asked, “Ronald, what’s wrong?”
He ignored her. He kept dialing his family over and over. No one answered.
He had been abandoned.
I could not help laughing. “Did you really think this day would never come? You used your power to crush people. Did you think there would be no
consequences?”
Ronald turned to his man, furious. “How did you miss this? This isn’t the first time. Why didn’t you find the
camera on her?”
The Man stuttered, unable to answer.
I said calmly, “Of course, you couldn’t find it.”
When I realized I might be in danger, I told my friend Sharon Vaughn. She told me the police had developed a new Micro camera. It was so small that it was almost impossible to detect.
She asked if I wanted to be the first test subject. I agreed without hesitation.
It was not on the market yet. Ronald’s usual methods had no chance of finding it.
At the same time, the police had already been investigating these so–called rich families. We simply worked together.
‘Police! Don’t Move!” Officers rushed out from the surrounding bushes and took everyone down in seconds.
Sharon helped untie me. I walked over to Ronald and Regina. “Don’t worry, Ronald. You won’t get away with this. Your family won’t either.”
Ronald looked completely defeated. All the strength drained out of him.
Then I turned to Regina. Her face was a Mess of tears and snot. “Good luck,” I sneered.
With everything added together, neither of them would have an easy future. Most likely, they would spend the rest of their lives in prison.
The Cress family fell from power. They were charged with corruption and bribery.
On the Mountain where I had been held, investigators found human remains. DNA tests later confirmed they belonged to employees who had reported the Cress family.
Now the whole family could be reunited in prison.
As for Regina, her family was only middle–class. They
could not afford to bail her out.
[So that’s it? Regina and Ronald went to prison, and Thomas is ruined. This is insane.]
(I have to admit that Sacha is actually really strong.)
(Yeah. It feels like she knew everything ahead of time. She kept predicting Regina’s Moves and avoiding them.]
At that moment, I was packing my bags to leave the
country.
I smiled faintly. “Thanks. I really could see all of you. And honestly, it felt great sending the main characters to prison.”
The comments froze for a second. Then they flooded the screen so fast that I could barely read them.
One line stood out. [You’re welcome. I helped you. I was just a reader who couldn’t stand the main characters. But in the end, you did it yourself. Goodbye.]
I froze. The comments flickered, then disappeared Completely.
My eyes grew warm. In another world, someone had really been helping me.
I felt a deep sense of gratitude.
Then I heard My grandmother’s voice. “Sacha, what are you doing? I’m ready to go enjoy the sun. Come
on.”
I wiped my eyes and smiled. “I’m coming.“
