A week later, I accompanied Haisley to sign the contract with the company.
Half a month later, it was the day Haisley joined the crew, as she did in my previous life.
I personally put her on the bus heading to Braunkia, where the crew was waiting.
Before she got on the bus, she held my hand and looked at me sincerely. “Iris, trust me. I’m definitely going to succeed. I’m going to give an incredible performance. I’m the best.”
As the bus drove off, I couldn’t help but smile.
I knew it was finally time to reel everything in.
When I got home, it was a little after eight at night. That was when Jenny got a call from the police.
The officer said, “Hello, are you a relative of Haisley? I’m sorry to inform you that Haisley died by jumping from a building in Braunkia. Please come to Braunkia as soon as possible to identify and claim the body.”
After Jenny hung up, she was trembling all over.
Her eyes were rimmed with red, swollen, and bloodshot.
“Haisley. My Haisley!” She rushed out the door barefoot, screaming like she’d lost her mind.
Seeing what happened, I immediately called Rick, and the three of us headed straight for Braunkia.
But in truth, nobody knew that after we left the house. we checked into a hotel right across the street from our apartment complex.
Half an hour later, a familiar figure showed up at the gate of our home. I knew then the true Murderer who destroyed my family in my previous life had finally
walked right into our trap.
Inside our villa, My Mom and Grace hugged each other, overwhelmed with emotion. My Mom, who’d been divorced for years and raised me all by herself, had tears in her eyes as she embraced Grace.
My Mom said, “Grace, you’ve put up with so much for us all these years. Don’t worry, once I inherit all of Iris’s assets, I’ll give it all to you, to properly make it up to you.”
Grace, who was usually so мeek and obedient,
gripped My Mom’s hand, her tone suddenly sharp and sinister. “That damn Iris, making me serve her whole family every single day. She owes me all of this.
“But I tell you, after today, her luck’s about to run out. She killed her sister–in–law. The Harris family will never forgive her. And now she’s pregnant. Pregnant Women are always at risk. One accident, two lives lost.”
Even though I’d mentally prepared myself, hearing Grace and My MOM spit out those poisonous words still sent me reeling. My heart hammering in my chest. Thankfully, Rick and Jenny steadied me from behind. Rick fished out his keys and opened the front door.
“Pam, Grace, you two really put on quite the performance,” Rick said with a Mocking smile.
The Moment the door swung open, the SMUG expressions on My MOM and Grace’s faces froze, like Masks shattered in place.
My Mom spun around, and when she saw the three of us standing there, her face turned deathly pale, her lips trembling as she struggled to form a complete sentence. “Iris, Rick, Jenny, why are you here?”
She nervously shoved Grace’s hand away, stumbling backward, her gaze evasive. Gone was any trace of the gentle, caring act she used to show me.
Grace, on the other hand, Managed to keep her cool, but beneath that calm, there was something mean and vicious. She already knew she’d been found out.
At that moment, My MOM was still pretending. “Iris, why are you back? Wasn’t Haisley in trouble? I actually wanted to go with you. But when I got here, you weren’t home. Only your housekeeper was around.” My MOM was still stubbornly finding excuses.
A wry smile tugged at my lips. “Mom, Grace, the whole thing about hearing the baby’s voice was your trick, right?”
“Iris, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.” My Mom clenched her jaw, absolutely refusing to confess.
At that moment, I placed my hand over my chest and pulled off a small, unremarkable black button from My Maternity dress.
I hurled the button onto the floor. It broke apart
instantly, and from inside, a tiny pinprick of red light pulsed faintly. “Mom, Grace, are you seriously still going to deny it?
“There is never any ‘baby’s voice.‘ I can never hear the baby say a single word. All those voices came from a tiny speaker hidden in this button.
“This was all your scheme. You knew pregnant women are extra sensitive to sound, so you used this gadget to play super quiet Messages. Since I wore it, only I could hear them.
“You used this tech gimmick to mess with My Mind, Making me believe I was hearing the baby’s thoughts.
“From Ms. Holmes at the Harris Group, to Professor Woods, and the entertainment company. Every single thing was orchestrated by you two. Mom, Grace, your real goal is to tear my family apart, right?
“If I died, Mom, you’d get at least half of my assets. And if my in–laws were blamed for my death, you could go after Rick for compensation. From the start, you are willing to kill me for the money.”
I roared in fury.
