He Welcomed Her Pup While Mine Was Cremated Chapter 08
POV: Maris Alden
Northbridge pack quickly began selecting a new Alpha heir.
But I was completely unaware of that distant chaos.
After leaving Northbridge, I took Elara and came to the Springmere Pack.
It’s a place where it never snows. Elara wouldn’t be cold here anymore.
More importantly, it was far enough from Northbridge.
This past month, I’d felt a peace I’d never known.
Today, I was wiping Elara’s photo as usual when a sudden urgent
knocking came at the door.
I opened the door, and a familiar figure dropped to his knees. “Maris,
I came to take you and Elara home.”
I didn’t want to deal with him. I moved to slam the door, but
Brennan shoved his hand against the frame.
“Please, Marís. Just let me say a few words.”
My hand stopped. “Brennan, just leave. I have nothing to talk to you.”
Seeing that I finally spoke, Brennan straightened up on his knees at
once. “I’m not leaving unless you come with me. I haven’t signed
the bond dissolution papers yet. You’re still my wife. Let’s go home together.”
I lowered my gaze to him kneeling before me.
“Go home for what? To watch you and Keira build your new
nursery? To watch the two of you screw on my mate bed? Or to raise the pup you chose while mine died in the cold?”
Brennan froze, then frantically denied it. “No, that’s not it. I already told Keira to get rid of the pup. I’ve broken up with her. I’ll be good to you from now on. I…‘
I let out a scornful laugh. “So what? That’s supposed to mean it never happened? You still betrayed me.
“You make her abort the pup, and that’ll bring my Elara back? If
you really felt even a shred of guilt toward me and Elara, you wouldn’t be here bothering me.”
Brennan’s face went ghostly pale. He couldn’t utter a word for a long moment.
I glared at him with pure hatred and said through gritted teeth, “Brennan Holt, you killed my pup. Why do you think I would ever go home with you?”
He flinched as if burned. “No, Maris, let me explain.”
“Elara is my own flesh and blood. How could I ever want to hurt her on purpose? It was an accident. I really didn’t mean it. You have to believe me…
I didn’t want to hear any more of his excuses.
“Enough! Brennan, get this through your head. Elara Alden is not your pup! She has nothing to do with you! Every word out of your mouth right now disgusts me! You have no right to ask for my forgiveness!”
Brennan’s eyes reddened. After a long silence, he whispered. “I’m sorry.
