He Sent Me Home With His Buddy. Bad Idea, Ex! Chapter 08
“No. That’s impossible. She wouldn’t choose someone else.”
Dorian staggered.
“She promised I was the only man she would ever marry.”
He remembered Seren blushing as she made that promise.
He had promised her the same thing.
“You’re the only woman I’ll ever marry.“
But Dorian had broken his promise first. Why should Seren keep hers?
The light faded from his eyes.
Blythe pleaded through her tears, “Let her go, Dorian. You
still have your whole life ahead of you.”
Dorian didn’t answer. He stumbled toward the door, bumping
into furniture along the way.
I have to find her… I have to find her…”
His voice was so hoarse it was barely audible.
Conrad and Blythe exchanged a grim look.
The moment Dorian stepped out of the room, the Ashfords‘
security guards seized his arms and legs. He kicked and
fought with everything he had.
“Let me go! What are you doing?”
They carried him into a secure hospital room and strapped
him to the bed.
Blythe entered, covering her face.
Dorian stared at her in disbelief.
“What is this? Let me go!”
A doctor held him still and injected a sedative.
“I’m sorry,” Blythe said. “After what happened at the Thorne
estate, the doctors placed you under an emergency
psychiatric hold. The Thornes also made it clear they’d take
action if we let you go after Seren again.”
She fought back her tears.
“Just try to sleep. It’ll be over soon.”
Dorian hadn’t expected his parents to betray him.
The sedative numbed his limbs and clouded his mind.
Terrified that Seren would already be married when he woke,
he bit down hard on his tongue to keep himself conscious.
Blood ran from his mouth.
Blythe screamed. The medical team rushed in and pressed gauze to the wound.
Dorian kept calling Seren’s name until the sedative pulled him under.
Three days before the wedding. I had mostly recovered, but
Evander still insisted that I remain in the hospital.
My mother was in the room next to mine.
She remained unconscious.
I rested my forehead against her hand and spoke to her.
Mom, I’m getting married soon. This time, it isn’t Dorian.”
Evander arranged for us to be transferred to a better
hospital. The doctors also enrolled you in a clinical trial for a
promising new treatment.”
Please wake up. I want you to see me get married.”
My voice broke.
A hand settled on my shoulder.
The doctors said your mother is breathing on her own again.
They can start weaning her off the ventilator soon. It’s a good
sign, and her chances of waking up are improving.”
1 looked up and saw Evander.
“Thank you.
Evander brushed a tear from the corner of my eye, his gaze
lingering on his damp fingertip.
Why do you cry so easily?”
My face grew warm, and I looked away.
Evander studied my face.
“You were crying the first time I saw you too.”
searched my memory. I was sure I hadn’t cried when we had dinner together.
I’m not talking about that dinner,” he said. “Three years ago,
after you went home with Ronan Price, my car was the one
that brought you back.”
It took me a moment to remember who Ronan was.
Evander waited patiently beside me.
I met his dark gaze and shivered.
You mean three years ago….
It had also been Thanksgiving.
I went home with Ronan, but his family dumped iced tea all
over me. He didn’t drive me back afterward.
His family lived in Westmere Estates, far outside the city. No
rideshare driver would come that far.
I wandered around for a long time before sitting beside the road, exhausted.
Then a car stopped in front of me.
The driver called me by name and said he was there to take
me back to the Ashford estate.
I assumed Dorian or Ronan had sent him.
When I got in, I noticed someone sitting in the back. His face
was hidden in the darkness.
I never imagined it had been Evander.
