He Defended Her, He Said I Deserved It Chapter 04

He Defended Her, He Said I Deserved It Chapter 04

Three days later, it was time for court.

My health has not improved.

My lower abdomen still ached after the procedure.

I sat on a cold courtroom bench and did everything I could to

follow my attorney’s instructions.

Across the courtroom, Ethan stood at the defense table in a

perfectly tailored black suit.

His voice was calm.

Steady.

Controlled.

He looked exactly like the man I had once admired most.

For six years, I had watched him read files through the night.

I had watched him pick apart arguments in court and turn

losing cases around.

I used to believe that a man who respected the law that

much would always be the person I could trust.

Now his intelligence had become a weapon against me.

His argument was precise.

He said Chloe’s actions might have been inappropriate.

But there was no direct evidence connecting her to what

happened afterward.

He said the law could not be ruled by emotion.

He said that we must not allow one tragedy to create another

victim.

Every sentence was polished.

Every argument was controlled.

Every word was difficult to attack.

Whispers spread through the gallery.

People looked at me.

Some with curiosity.

Some with judgment.

As if I were just a jealous wife who had lost control,

As if what happened that night had been my own fault.

As if my clothes had caused it.

My hand tightened.

My nails dug into my palm.

Pain still moved through my body.

But I did’t cry.

I had already cried through every nightmare.

Ethan finished his closing argument.

He lowered his head and gathered his papers.

He never looked at me once.

I had gone over that night again and again.

I had gathered every detail I could.

Against his carefully built evidence, I had nothing.

Chloe was cleared.

She was ordered to pay a small fine.

When the ruling was read, she covered her face and cried.

She looked completely devastated.

Then she turned toward Ethan.

“Thank you.”

Her eyes were red.

As she turned away, she looked directly at me.

For one second, a smile touched the corner of her mouth.

Then it vanished.

I looked back calmly.

Then I stood and walked out.

My lower abdomen still hurt.

The sunlight outside made my legs weak.

When I got home, the signed divorce papers were already waiting.

I put them in an envelope and sent them by courier to

Ethan’s firm.

My clothes, documents, skincare products, and photo albums.

were already packed.

I took none of Ethan’s jewelry or gifts.

I removed my wedding ring.

Then I placed it on the coffee table.

I looked around the apartment one last time.

Our wedding photo still hung on the wall.

In that picture, Ethan and I were still in love.

We were smiling.

We looked happy.

Now those people felt like strangers.

picked up my suitcase.

left.

At the airport, thirty minutes before my flight, I made one phone call.

“Hello.”

“The material I sent before.”

“You can release it now.”

Six years of marriage had ended.

Ethan.

You chose not to spare me first.

So I had no reason to spare you.
