Harming Son Drove My Husband Crazy With Re… Chapter 06
James’s mother’s ranting suddenly got stuck in her throat.
James’s father’s face was livid as he reached out to grab my phone, only to realize it was still locked.
Frantic with anger, he tried to snatch it away and smash it, but I was faster. I snatched it back before he could even touch it.
“What’s wrong? Feeling guilty now?” I said.
I slipped my phone back into my bag and gave my clothes a casual flick, as if I had all the time in the world.
I continued, “If you’ve got the energy to argue with me, why not just call your son? Tell him the deal he made, trading his own kid’s future for a settlement, is gone up in smoke.
“And while you’re at it, have him ask his star student, Emily Lane, if there’s any way to reattach what she cut off, his manhood.
“After all, making sure the Carter Family has heirs is a big deal. That’s not an easy mess to clean up.”
James’s father shot back, “No, we still have Adam. Adam is our precious grandson too.”
I let out a cold laugh. “I’ve already contacted a lawyer. From today on, Adam is no longer part of the Carter Family.”
With every word I said, James’s parents‘ faces grew even more ashen.
Finally, James’s father looked like he’d been drained dry. He slumped onto the bench, completely defeated.
With shaky hands, he pulled out his phone and called James.
James finally answered after letting the phone ring forever, sounding super annoyed. In the background, Emily’s voice was all sweet and flirty.
“Dad, what now? Is Olivia acting up again? Tell her to knock it off, I’m busy.”
James’s father opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
James’s mother snatched the phone and started bawling into it. “James! Please, you have to come to the hospital right now! Ryan, our Ryan…
“He can’t have children anymore!”
There was a dead silence on the other end.
A few seconds later, there was a loud crash, the sound of furniture smashing, then Emily’s panicked scream.
“Dr. Carter! What’s wrong?” Emily cried out. “James! Say something! Don’t scare me!”
James’s mother was still bawling into the phone, while James’s father just sat there, looking like he’d aged twenty years in a single moment.
I just stood there, watching them, my heart as cold as ice, completely untouched by their misery.
The head nurse sighed, came over and handed me a cup of warm water.
“Mrs. Carter, if you don’t get that wound looked at, it‘ s gonna leave a scar,” she said.
I took the cup, murmured a thanks, but stayed right where I was.
Not long after, the elevator dinged and the doors slid open.
James burst out of the elevator, with Emily right on his heels.
James looked like a ghost; his face was pale as a sheet, his hair a mess, and even his usually crisp white coat was all rumpled.
When he first saw me, it wasn’t concern in his eyes; it was accusation.
He stormed over, eyes bloodshot, and grabbed me by the collar. “Olivia! Admit it. It was you, wasn’t it? This is all your doing!”
He grabbed me with surprising force, jerking me so hard I nearly lost my balance, my back crashing against the wall.
“You knew the whole time, didn’t you? You just stood by and watched me let Emily take over! You did it on purpose. You destroyed my son!” he said.
Emily followed close behind, her face pale as a ghost, eyes red and anxious, shooting me a nervous, guilty glance.
“Olivia, maybe there’s been some mistake? The surgery was supposed to be simple. How could things go so wrong?” she said.
Emily barely got the words out before James lost it completely.
“A mistake? She did it deliberately!” James snapped. He jabbed a finger right in my face, his voice trembling with fury. “You just can’t stand seeing me treat Emily well! That’s why you set this whole thing up, to get back at me and ruin Ryan!
“How could you be so cruel, Olivia?”
I looked at him, acting like a rabid dog, then glanced at Emily, playing the helpless victim behind him. Honestly, the whole scene was just ridiculous.
“James, aren’t you supposed to be the genius surgeon?” I shot back.
I gave him back the exact words he’d used to shut me up before, not missing a beat.
“You’re the one who signed off on the settlement. I’ m just the clueless stepmom; how could I possibly object to your decisions?”
James froze.
I took the chance to push his hand away and straightened my collar, which he’d messed up.
“A little surgical slip–up, hard to pin the blame on anyone, isn’t it?” I said.
I looked past him, fixing my eyes on Emily, who was shaking behind him.
“Isn’t that right, Dr. Lane?”
