There was no trace of Aria left in New York.
Walter went back to the famous design studio where Aria had once worked. He ran into her former supervisor–the same man from the banquet.
The man greeted him with confusion. “Mr. York, what brings you here all of a sudden?”
As though recalling something, he went on. “That girl you asked about–she had serious character issues. Rumor was she’d been trying to buy off colleagues before she left. Good riddance. Who knows what trouble she might have caused down the line.”
Walter was already exhausted and on edge from his search, yet he instinctively pushed back against those words. “Have you ever actually looked at her performance reviews?”
The executive froze.
Walter’s irritation flared higher. “Aria poured herself into her work. She was the top performer on her team every single year. You let go of someone that talented instead of holding onto her–what were you thinking?”
Besides, that coffee delivery was ordered under her name by somebody else. She didn’t place it. A star employee like her would never do something so reckless.”
Ignoring the shocked stares of everyone present, Walter turned and walked out.
He hunted for Aria relentlessly for half a month, with zero
leads. Then a travel content–creator account under the name
Aria Hill popped up online.
Her very first travel video was set across Europe.
Walter stared at those familiar destinations. Memories hit
him all at once–Aria curled up against his chest, mapping
out her travel plans.
In the video, Aria smiled bright and genuine. She spoke about
leaving her job, about her dreams, about life. She was alive
again in a way he hadn’t seen in years.
This was where she truly got to shine.
Walter began following her travel itinerary. It was his only
shot at seeing her. But every time he arrived in one city, Aria
had already moved on. Every time, he arrived only to find she
was already gone.
One year later, on the Hawaiian islands, Walter finally
tracked Aria down through her newly uploaded travel footage.
