Became His Perfect Luna Chapter 06
Kael shook his head immediately.
“No.”
“Grace has no one else in this world.”
“She isn’t the kind of person you’re making her out to be.”
Kael frowned at Tessa as if he were seeing her for the first time.
“Can you stop accusing her of things without proof?”
Tessa froze.
How ironic.
It took me leaving for him to finally start believing me.
Just as Kael was about to have his Beta investigate, his phone rang.
“Is this Mr. Ashford?”
“This is Harbor Pack Security.”
“Is Grace your promised mate?”
“We found a woman’s body in the bay. We need you to come
identify her.”
At the word body, Kael went completely still.
After a long silence, he scoffed in disbelief.
“What kind of sick joke is this?”
“Grace can’t be dead.”
Of course he didn’t believe it.
When I chose to stay in this world, I had told Kael everything I was able to tell him.
He knew I was a soul from another world. He also knew I had no family here, no fallback, and no choice but to stay with him.
That was why he eventually felt free to hurt me however he pleased.
He was certain I had nowhere to run.
Tessa took a deep breath, her voice turning cold.
“Kael, did you forget what Grace used to do to me?”
“If it weren’t for her, I never would’ve ended up alone in my room
with a fever that nearly made me pass out.”
“I’m carrying your pup. That’s a fact, and she must’ve known already.”
“She’s so jealous–how could she ever accept another she–wolf carrying your child?”
I instinctively looked at Kael.
He was silent for several seconds.
The small flicker of trust that had just appeared in his eyes faded as
old reflexes took over again.
He didn’t immediately believe Tessa.
But he didn’t fully believe me either.
That was enough.
Kael had people at the family estate investigate how he had
suddenly lost Ashford Group.
Naturally, they found nothing.
There was no transaction to trace.
It was the price of an Alpha vow.
He had said it himself.
“Everything I have is yours anyway.”
Moon Goddess had heard him.
Madison had accepted his promise too.
I was getting bored and about to leave when I saw Kael go to Harbor Pack Security.
He suspected someone had used me to transfer his assets, so he demanded that Pack Security find me as quickly as possible.
The officer handling the case sighed.
“We already found her.”
“But Grace died several hours ago.”
“How could she have transferred your assets after she was dead?”
“Our investigation also found that she has no family in this world. You’re her only emergency contact.”
“If she really had a way out, why wouldn’t she have used it to save herself first?”
The moment Kael saw the body himself, he froze where he stood, unable to take another step.
The seawater had stripped away her warmth and the last traces of the way I had looked in life.
“No…”
“I was only gone for a little while.”
“Just a little while.”
“How could she be dead?”
“I told the kidnappers I’d come back with the ransom for her.”
Kael forced a stiff smile, as if he were trying to fool himself.
But the mating ring he had personally chosen was still on her finger.
His promised mate had died on the day of their mating ceremony.
The officer’s next words were merciless.
“Kidnappers don’t wait around for you to come back.”
“Once you took one hostage out of there, you abandoned the other.”
“Mr. Ashford, you should have known that.”
The words finally cut through him like a knife.
He dropped heavily to his knees.
He crawled to her side and pulled her tightly into his arms, not
caring how cold the seawater had left her.
His eyes had gone unfocused.
“Don’t do this, Grace.”
“Get up.”
“We’re going home.”
“We still haven’t completed the mating ceremony.”
“It’s too cold here. I’ll take you home.”
Grief drained the strength from his body.
He could barely keep hold of her.
The ring slipped from her finger and fell to the floor.
Kael dropped to all fours in panic, searching for it.
“No.”
“We still have to complete the ceremony.”
You can’t lose the ring.”
In the end, it was too much for him.
Kael passed out.
When he woke again, he was in the Pack hospital.
His friends stood around the bed, watching him anxiously.
“Where’s Grace?”
