After the Breakup, My basketball Player boyfriend Begged Me Not to Leave Chapter 04

I froze, then a sudden chill ran through me and I started to shake

When I checked my phone, I realized they’d already been

gone for half an hour

That was really irresponsible of him,Connor said

Even if he doesn’t like you, he can’t leave you sitting out here

alone this late.”

My rideshare just got here. I’m headed that way anyway, so

I’ll drop you off.”

On the ride back, I sent Trevor a breakup message on WhatsApp

He still didn’t respond

He never even asked whether I was still waiting where he’d left me

Maybe being out in the cold that long had gotten to me; that

night, I came down with a lowgrade fever and barely slept

Early the next morning, Connor called me

Sydney, why aren’t you here yet?”

Where did you put the new uniforms that came in a few days ago? I can’t find them.”

Maybe the fever had left me too foggy to remember the right spot

Even after I explained it several times, Connor still couldn’tfind them.

We need them pretty urgently. Can you come by?”

I know you’re not with the team anymore, so I don’t really have the right to ask.”

Connor had always looked out for me

He’d even taken me all the way back to my dorm the night before

After thinking it over, I forced myself out of bed

When I reached the equipment room, I finally found the

uniforms tucked into the back corner of a cabinet

I’d barely pulled them out when Brianna walked in and held but her hands

Connor said you could give them to me once you found them.”

You’re not the student manager anymore. You don’t have

any business being on the practice court.”

The fever had left me weak all over

I didn’t even have the energy to argue with her, so I simply

handed the whole stack over

Brianna clearly hadn’t expected the stack to be so heavy

Her arms buckled, and the weight knocked her to the floor

Then she immediately turned around and blamed me

You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

You knew I didn’t have a good grip yet, and you let go anyway!”

Trevor suddenly burst into the room

He caught sight of Brianna on the floor, accusing me

She was only trying to help you, and you’re bullying her for it?”

I laughed in angry disbelief

She lost her balance and fell. How is that my fault?”

Brianna grabbed Trevor’s arm and lowered her voice

Don’t blame Sydney.”

I took her place the moment I joined. Of course she hates me.”

But I think I twisted my ankle. Can you take me to the hospital?”

Trevor looked at me, and there was something utterly unfamiliar in his eyes

Someone as petty as you is nothing but trouble for this team.”

A few players walked in, saw Brianna on the floor, and

immediately assumed I’d done something to her

Their expressions turned openly contemptuous

Trevor made the decision on the spot

After next week’s state tournament, Brianna is going on the

weeklong beach trip instead of you.”

I’ll have Connor take her.”

Consider that your way of making this up to her. You owe her that much.”

Then he scooped Brianna into his arms and rushed out

without looking back

I stayed where I was

I didn’t make a scene, and I didn’t chase after them to explain

I simply sent my dad a message

Me: [Cancel the beach trip I asked you to sponsor for the basketball team.

Trevor apparently still had no idea

What they all thought was a posttournament team perk

existed only because I’d talked my dad into sponsoring it

I had never owed any of them a thing
