After My Boyfriend and Best Friend Betrayed Me, Regret Haunted Them Nightly Chapter 07

A month later, I bumped into Preston again

He had a difficult patient and couldn’t settle on surgical plan, so he came to our hospital to consult with Dr. Nelson about cooperating

All the cardiology doctors crowded into Dr. Nelson’s office. Staring at the patient’s chart, everyone fell silent

After a long pause, Dr. Nelson frowned. The risks are

way too high. Nobody in the country would dare claim they can do this. Maybe Dr. Schmidt from Germany could.”

Before leaving, Preston gave me a complex look

opening his mouth as if to say something, but ultimately left in silence

Three days later, we gathered in the conference room for a remote video call with Dr. Schmidt

Preston laid out the patient’s condition, earnestly begging Dr. Schmidt to fly over and save a life

Dr. Schmidt on screen listened for a long time before shaking his head

He explained that his health had been poor lately

making long flights impossible and leaving him without the energy for such a highdifficulty procedure

Disappointment washed over the expectant crowd in the conference room

Preston’s face turned deathly pale as he forced a weak smile

Dr. Schmidt then shifted the conversation, pointing directly at me. Julissa studied under me for three years and is my absolute best student. If only one person can pull off this surgery, I believe it is Julissa.”

The room erupted into hushed murmurs

Preston stared at me in shock, muttering under his breath. So that’s where you were these past three yearsGermany.”

I gave a slight nod. Preston, I told you a long time ago. Saving lives is my dream, and I’m willing to dedicate my entire life to it.”

Just because I fractured my arm, did you really think I’d stay down and vanish for three years?”

I turned my focus back to Dr. Nelson. Dr. Nelson, I can perform this surgery.”

After the meeting adjourned, Preston rushed out after me, his voice urgent. You’re taking this surgery? Julissa, your arm‘

I cut him off coldly. I know my arm better than anyone.”

He kept pace with me. It’s not that I don’t trust you

but you know how hard this procedure is. Massive bleeding could happen at any moment, and the success rate is painfully low. This is my patient. You don’t need to put yourself under this much pressure.”

I stopped abruptly, turning to meet his eyes. Preston

I don’t care whose patient he is. I only know a human life is on the line. As long as there’s a chance, even just one percent, I will try.”

I held out my hand, palm up. The chart. You’re his attending physician and know his condition best. Whether you want to do this surgery with me is your choice.”

Preston hesitated for a moment before gently placing the medical chart in my palm

Before the procedure, I went to meet the patient’s family

A man in a sharp suit was quietly comforting his mother. He looked up at me with a nod

Dr. Palmer, I’m Milton Simpson. Dr. Holt mentioned you’re Dr. Schmidt’s student. My father is in your hands.”

Preston cut in with a grave tone. I must stress again that the risks are extremely high. Dr. Palmer isn’t a miracle worker”

Milton nodded calmly. Regardless, I trust Dr. Palmer.”

Meeting those deep eyes, a sense of calm washed over me

I signed my name on the surgical plan and offered him a small smile

I’ll do my absolute best.”
