After being assassination thirteen times by my fiance, I finally Chapter 05
Inside Manhattan City Hall, the air conditioning was so strong it made me shiver.Â
Diana forced me to sit at the signing table like she was escorting a prisoner.Â
“Sign.” She tossed the pen to me.Â
Just as I trembled as I gripped the pen, her phone rang shrilly.Â
The screen lit up with the incoming call: [My Angel Simon].Â
Diana glanced at the screen, immediately answered the call, and her face turned death ly pale: “What?! A car accident?! I’m coming right away!”Â
She turned abruptly to leave, but her assi stant, Marcus, rushed in: “Boss! Mr. Simon has been in a car accident and is in emergency care! The driver has been caught, and he said…” Marcus glanced at me, “…that His Excel- lency Ivan gave him $100,000 to run Simon over!”Â
My mind went blank: “What nonsense are you spouting? I’m almost out of money for food!”Â
“Smack-!”Â
A resounding slap landed hard on my face. The force sent me sprawling to the ground, crashing heavily into the metal bench.Â
“You vile lunatic!” Diana’s eyes were bloodshot, liÂ
ke an enraged beast. “I’ve already humbled my- self to marry you, and you still want to hire someone to kill him?!”Â
“I didn’t!” I coughed up blood, clutching my burn- ing cheek. “I didn’t do it at all!”Â
As I fell, the old sil-Â
ver chain around my neck snapped. Inside it was the last remaining bit of my father’s ashes.Â
The pendant rolled to the side of Diana’s high heels.Â
She glanced down, her eyes flashing with extreme dis- gust and hatred.Â
“Even in death, they want to kidnap me in this disgusting way!” She raised her sharp high heels and aimed them at the fragile silVer box.Â
“No-!” I lunged at him like a madman.Â
Click.Â
The silver box was crushed, and grayish–white powder scattered on the dirty floor, mixing with the dust.Â
“No! Dad!” I cried out in despair, reaching out to protect the powder.Â
“I’ve had enough of you, father and son!” Diana kicked my shoulder away and stepped on my outstretched right hand. “Vincent saved me back then, bu t I didn’t ask him to save me! You used your ungrate-Â
ful life to lock me up for ten whole years!”Â
The high heel relentlessly crushed into the fin- gers of my right hand, and the osteoporotic fin- ger bones caused by years of chemother- apy made a teeth–grinding cracking sound.Â
was in excruciating pain, and my back was in- stantly soaked with cold sweat.Â
Diana bent down, grabbed my collar, and drag ged me up like a rag doll: “If anything hap- pens to Simon, I’ll make you pay with your life!”Â
When I woke up again, the first thing I saw w as the glaring operating lights of the under- ground clinic.Â
was tightly strapped to the iron bed with belts. A thick needle was inserted into my vein, and dark red blood was flowing steadily into the blood bag.Â
Diana stood in the shadows, like a cold–blooded judge.Â
“Simon lost too much blood. He’s blood type B, and you’r e type O,” she said coldly. “This is what you owe him.”Â
The black–clad doctor in the white coat next to me was sweating profusely, holding my urgent blood test re- port and speaking in a trembling voice: “Miss Thorn e… this won’t do! This gentleman’s condition is ex- tremely bad, his white blood cell count is terri- bly low, and his blood is full of… I’m not sure what it is but this blood can’t be used, and he might even die if we draw any more!”Â
“Shut up!” Diana interrupted the docfor hysterically, grabbing him by the collar. “I don’t care about his test results! I just wantÂ
you to drain him dry! Doesn’t he like hiring hitmen? I want him to feel the pain of life slip- ping away, bit by bit!”Â
“But we can’t use this blood on Mr. Simon…”Â
Then throw it away! Drain it and pour it down the drain!” Diana pointed at me, her eyesÂ
filled with a morbid rage. “Draw back as much blood as he made Simon bleed! Fill four bags!”Â
I looked at the tubes in my arm with despair.Â
The toxicity of anti–cancer drugs, longterm malnutrition, and the blood loss at this moment caused my body temperature to plummet to freezing point.Â
“Diana…” I gasped, my vision blurring, “I’m going to die…”Â
“Don’t threaten me with death, you’ve used that trick to death.” She turned around with a cold laugh, “You’ll let him go after you’ve had your fill.”Â
With a heavy slam of the door, she completely disappeared from my sight.Â
The monitor’s frequency increased, and my breath- ing gradually stopped.Â
it’s really coming to an end.Â
Dad… I’ve come to find you…Â
