A Glimmer in the Dark Chapter 04
“Don’t touch me,” Emily snapped.
Emily snapped at him impatiently.
The Male escort kept pawing at her, and no matter how she shoved, she couldn’t get free.
I hesitated for a second, then kicked the guy from behind and caught Emily before she fell.
“Who the hell was that? You got a death wish?” the escort shouted.
“Me. You’re a grown man with two working hands and feet. Being an escort is one thing, but groping people too? Have you got no shame?” I said.
I said it with pure disgust while helping Emily walk
away.
“Well, look who it is. The rapist’s daughter,” the escort sneered.
I heard the escort let out a cold laugh.
“You’re famous now. What, you out for revenge or Something? Here to collect blood? And you’ve got the nerve to talk shit to me? You’re filthier than I am,” the
escort said.
I clenched my fists, ready to hit back, but before I Moved, Emily swung her designer bag, worth several thousand dollars, and smashed it right into him.
“Screw you! I already got the trending posts taken down, so how are you still seeing that crap? Keep running your mouth and I’ll Make sure you can’t even work this job anymore!” Emily snapped.
I stared at Emily’s profile and honestly wondered if she had a fever.
The escort looked furious, but in the end, he still left.
As I held Emily up, I asked,
“I don’t have a home!” Emily snapped.
“Quit talking nonsense…” I started, then stopped as I suddenly remembered that her father had not shown up the day I knocked out her tooth.
“Then I’ll dump you under the bridge,” I said.
“You dare dump me under a bridge? Claire Evans, where the hell do you get the nerve?” Emily snapped.
“We don’t do slaves in a free country, so what the hell are you scared of? As long as I’m around, you’re not dying.” I snapped.
Whenever I had a fight with Mom, I’d come sleep under the bridge. I knew which spots were safe.
“Emily Reed, sometimes I really envy you. You don’t have to worry about anything, and your father is still the Mayor. You’ve got it all,” I said.
I said it lightly, though the wound on my arm was still throbbing.
“What do you mean, ‘got it all‘? He doesn’t love me at all. He didn’t even come back for My Mom’s funeral. What’s the point of having a father like that?” Emily
said.
The wind sobered Emily up a little. She shook her head, then frowned when she realized it was Me.
“Uh… I didn’t Mean it, okay? I just wanted to embarrass you a little,” Emily said.
I said nothing.
If I’d known things were like this, I never would’ve hit her.
At the very least, Mom’s past would’ve stayed hidden.
The next day when I got back, I saw a pair of Men’s leather shoes at the door.
The lights were on inside for once.
I was about to walk in when I heard someone inside say,
“I can overlook your past, but I can’t accept that you have a fifteen–year–old daughter, especially one with that kind of rotten blood. If… if you leave your
daughter behind, then we’ll get Married,” the man said.
The second I heard that, the ointment Emily had given Me slipped from My hand.
It hit the floor with a bang.
