A Genius Once Fell into the Don’s Orbit Chapter 05

A Genius Once Fell into the Don’s Orbit Chapter 05

When the phone rang, I was packing my things.

Enzo was proud.

After I proposed divorce, although he was angry and

confused, he still signed his name without hesitation.

His eyes seemed filled with sadness.

“If this is what you want, I’ll give it to you.”

It was my parents calling.

I didn’t want to answer.

But they kept calling again and again.

Afraid they would come looking for me, I finally picked up.

“Valentina, how could you get divorced without telling

your family? You made such a huge decision so suddenly,

Do you even consider your parents anymore…”

I rubbed my ear impatiently.

Her voice only made me feel irritated.

I cut her off.

“Are you done?”

There was silence for several seconds.

Then came even more complaints.

“Valentina Hawthorne! Have you become so arrogant that you speak to me like this? Who do you think we did everything for? Wasn’t it for you?”

“For me? Hahahaha…”

I almost laughed from anger.

“Do you even hear yourself, Mrs. Hawthorne? Have you

ever truly cared about me?”

“You’re only worried about this divorce because it affects

the interests between the two families.”

“But don’t worry. You have Alessia.”

“You’ve been desperately trying to push Alessia closer to

Enzo. Isn’t that because you want her to replace me?”

“Let me guess… after Alessia came back and saw that

Enzo’s leg had recovered, she wanted to be with him

again,”

“Just like back then. When she didn’t want to marry Enzo,

you sent her away overnight.”

“And now that she wants him again, you’re doing

everything you can to bring them together.”

“Completely ignoring the fact that he is already my

husband.”

Mrs. Hawthorne was speechless.

She wanted to argue, but the words got stuck in her

throat.

“Valentina… how can you say that about your mother?”

I laughed softly.

“Don’t pretend.”

“Sometimes I really wonder…”

“Am I not your biological daughter?”

“The DNA test clearly says I am.”

“So why don’t you love me?”

“Shouldn’t you have felt heartbroken after knowing how

much I suffered all those years?”

“Shouldn’t you have tried desperately to make it up to me

after bringing me home?”

“Shouldn’t you have treated me twice as well?”

“The girl with no blood relation to you was treasured like a

princess,”

“But your own daughter was sent to live in the maid’s

room,”

“You made me give up college and marry for the family”

“After I got married, you never even called to ask whether I

was doing well.”

“The only time you asked me to come home was because

Alessia returned and wanted to see Enzo,”

“We… we could never not love you…”

“Wouldn’t you be embarrassed if someone else heard

that?”

“Forget it, Mrs. Hawthorne.”

“Our relationship ends here.”

“You can depend on Alessia to maintain your ties with the Ricci family.”

“Just pretend I never existed.”

“Don’t call me again.”

“Goodbye.”

I hung up.

Blocked.

Deleted.

Everything was done.

It wasn’t true that I felt nothing,

But compared to my short life, these things suddenly felt

insignificant.

I took a deep breath and opened my phone.

Then I booked a flight to Europe.

I signed up for classes as quickly as possible.

I was going to continue my education.

But I had no intention of staying in America.

I enrolled in TOEFL preparation courses.

I contacted several senior students I knew from my freshman year.

Back then, I had often worked on experiments with them.

That was why, during my sophomore year, I received praise from several professors.

With the mindset of simply trying my luck, I reached out through my seniors.

I never expected them to write recommendation letters for me.

I never expected my previous research papers to still be praised years later

Suddenly, I felt that life was beautiful.

Why had I ever wanted to become a mafia family

housewife?

Thankfully, it wasn’t too late.

Three years of marriage later, I was still the same person 1

had always been,

Hahaha,

A smile slowly appeared on my lips.

My new life had begun.

Five months later, when I saw the admission letter from

Oxford University in my email, it was the first time my

heart had raced with excitement.

Every effort would eventually be rewarded.

I only shared this happiness with Linda.

Although I had paid a hefty fee to end my contract with

the studio, Linda still supported me.

She believed my talent shouldn’t be buried in the

entertainment industry.

It wasn’t that Hollywood was bad.

It just wasn’t my path.

We became friends.

When she learned that Enzo and I had been married for

three years, she was so shocked that she dropped her

cigarette,

The cigarette burned a hole into my expensive Persian

carpet,

Linda cursed Enzo for being a terrible man and called

Alessia a manipulative woman,

She came to see me off at the airport.

Before I boarded the flight to England, she almost cried

while wishing me a brilliant future.

I smiled and accepted her blessing.

Then I began my journey as a student again.

Studying abroad wasn’t easy.

I rented a spacious, sunlit apartment and hired a local

Chinese cook to prepare my meals.

After all, everyone knew Britain was a food desert.

I wasn’t going to mistreat myself.

I was a wealthy woman now, after all.

The heavy workload quickly helped me settle into my new life.

My classmates were wonderful.

Because of my abilities, I was accepted into an artificial intelligence laboratory.

The most outstanding senior student there was also American,

His name was Samuel Hartwell,

His research fascinated me,

The more we discussed ideas, the more I realized how

powerful technology could be,

One day, Samuel and I were once again arguing passionately over artificial intelligence and algorithm design.

The phone suddenly rang,

Without thinking, I answered.

There was still a trace of anger on my face.

Samuel, however, only looked at me gently.

His eyes were shining like stars.

Maybe he was happy because he had just won our argument,

“Hello?”

“Valentina,”

That deep voice had called my name countless times while lying beside me.

I glanced at the unfamiliar number.

I recognized it instantly,

It was Enzo Rossi.
