Sold My Fiance, Crashed His Wedding Chapter 09

**Scarlett’s POV**

Julian can’t say “I love you.” The silence stretches.

But he doesn’t give up. He pulls out a velvet box from his pocket and drops to one knee.

“You’re right. Maybe it’s not love.” His voice stays calm. “But I don’t care. I want you. Scarlett Winters, marry me.”

It’s not a question. It’s a command. His last attempt at control.

I stare at him and it feels absurd. Last time around, I wanted this moment so badly I destroyed myself for it.

Now that it’s here, I just want to laugh.

The doorbell rings.

Julian waves at security to get it.

The door opens. Jax walks in with three lawyers in suits behind him.

“Evening, Mr. Whitmore.” Jax sounds relaxed. “I’m here for Scarlett.”

Julian stands. “Where’s security?”

Jax grins. “Your security? Just had a nice chat with them outside. Real friendly guys. Especially after I told them I just bought that debt your father’s been using to blackmail Scarlett.”

Julian’s face changes.

Jax’s lawyer steps forward with papers. “Debt transfer agreement. It went through thirty minutes ago. Mr.

Monroe owns it now. And he’s waiving the whole thing.”

Julian’s fingers tighten on the box.

I look at Jax and something tight in my chest finally loosens. Freedom’s this simple. You just need someone willing to cut the chains.

walk up to Julian.

“You asked why I keep saying no. Let me tell you.”

My voice comes out steady, but every word cuts. “You never checked the security footage. Never asked for my side. You made me apologize to the woman who humiliated my mother. When that chandelier fell, you picked her. Not me.”

You know what I thought in that moment?” I meet his eyes. “I thought, I wasn’t even worth as much as her.”

Julian tries to explain. “She was closer to me-

“You’re right.” I cut him off. “That’s not love. Because the only person you love, Julian, is yourself.”

Julian looks like all the air just got sucked out of him.

I turn and walk to Jax. He holds out his hand. I take it.

We leave together.

Three days later, Julian shows up at the Winters house.

Celeste rushes over. “Julian, did you finally come to your senses? We can start over-”

Julian cuts her off, his voice cold. “I pulled the security footage from that dinner.”

Celeste goes white.

“You threw yourself down those stairs to frame Scarlett. You drove wedges between us. You impersonated her at the wedding.” Julian’s eyes hold nothing. “My legal team’s got the paperwork ready.

Fraud, forgery, assault. You, your mother, and your father are all going down.”

Celeste collapses to the floor.

Julian walks out. He’s not doing this for justice. He just wants me to know he finally saw the truth.

Too late, though.

Ten months later, Julian buries himself in work. Sixteen–hour days. No breaks, no social life, nothing.

His assistant notices he keeps getting stomach pains, but he won’t see a doctor.

Until one day he throws up blood in his office and passes out.

The diagnosis comes back: late–stage stomach cancer.

The doctor says chronic stress, irregular eating, keeping everything bottled up. All of it added up.

Julian looks at the report and laughs. It’s a bitter sound.

Maybe this is karma. He trapped me with rules. Now disease traps him. Fair enough.

The doctor asks if he wants to start treatment.

Julian shakes his head. “I don’t need it.”

He’s tired.

One year later.

Sunlight dances on the water.

This wedding has no family, no business partners, no press. Just a few people we actually care about.

I’m wearing a simple white slip dress, barefoot in the sand.

Jax stands across from me in a white shirt and black pants.

No officiant. We wrote our own vows.

Jax holds my hands. “The moment I saw you at that racing club, I knew you were worth everything. Not controlling. Not owning. Just keeping you safe.”

I look into his eyes. “You taught me what real freedom

is. It’s not about having no rules. It’s about having

choices. Choosing who to love. Choosing who to be. Choosing how to live.”

Waves hit the shore.

We kiss.

No crystal chandeliers. No crowd of guests. No fake congratulations.

Just us and this sky we picked.

After the ceremony, we sit on the beach watching the sunset.

Jax speaks up. “Hey, I heard Julian’s sick.”

I freeze.

“Bad,” Jax says. “But he’s refusing treatment.”

I’m quiet for a long time. Then I say, “That’s his choice.”

I don’t hate him, Won’t forgive him either.

He’s just someone who passed through my life. Taught me what I don’t want.

Jax kisses my forehead. “Come on, Mrs. Monroe. Our new life’s waiting.”

I stand and take his hand.

Yeah. My new life.

The freedom I paid for with a lifetime of pain.

Worth it.
