A Drawing Sent My Babies to Their Graves Chapter 05

A Drawing Sent My Babies to Their Graves Chapter 05

“A red flower! It’s a red flower!”

Laura screamed first. Tears sprang to her eyes as she frantically scrambled toward the easel. She clutched the canvas with both hands, treating it like a priceless treasure.

“Thank God! Thank you, Billy!” Laura whipped her head around and practically tackled me in a crazed hug. “Daisy! Did you hear that? You’re finally carrying a normal baby! The Williams family has an heir!”

George’s usually cold, rigid features twitched with raw excitement. “A miracle! This is a miracle for our family!”

And my husband, Jake.

He stood beside me, his eyes glued to the glaring red flower on the canvas. A second later, his expression shifted to wild ecstasy. He pulled me fiercely into his arms and kissed my forehead.

“Thank God, honey. We finally have a baby,” he said, his voice trembling.

I let him hold me. Watching this group of ecstatic, weeping demons, my stomach churned.

From that day on, I was treated like royalty within the Williams family.

I was moved back to the main estate in Beverly Hills. I was living at the absolute top of the food chain, experiencing the life countless women dreamed of.

Laura cooked for me herself every day. Premium white truffles, air–freighted Russian caviar, priceless. deep–sea bird’s nest soup–she shoved bowl after bowl in front of me as if money meant nothing.

“Eat up, Daisy. You’re the hero of this family how.”

Meanwhile, Jake changed.

He started spending his nights away from home on a regular basis.

“The company is in the middle of a multi–million- dollar merger. I can’t get away.”

“I have a business dinner tonight, honey. Go to sleep early,”

Armed with the most pathetic excuses, he would stumble in at two or three in the morning, reeking of cheap alcohol mixed with different women’s perfumes.

I knew what he was running from. He was a coward.

Every night, when he lay beside me dead drunk, he didn’t even dare to touch me.

George was more than generous with his rewards. He made a highly publicized announcement: when my pregnancy hit the six–month mark, he would throw a massive, spectacular gala that would shake all of Los Angeles.

“At this gala, in front of the press and the city’s elite, I will officially transfer thirty percent of the Williams Group’s shares to my unborn grandson!” George declared grandly in the main hall.

Sitting on the leather sofa nearby, I stroked my slightly bulging stomach and offered a gentle, submissive smile..

“Thank you,” I murmured.

My belly grew day by day.

When my pregnancy finally neared the six–month mark, I got the call I had been waiting for.

“Ms. Bennett, everything you asked for has been thoroughly investigated.” The private investigator’s voice over the phone sounded grave. “To be honest, I‘ ve been in this business for twenty years, and I’ve never seen a family this sick and twisted.”

“Send it to me.” My voice was dead calm.

Even though I had already guessed part of the truth, when the veil was completely ripped away–when those bloody, naked facts were shoved right in my face–I still couldn’t hold it back.

I rushed into the bathroom, gripped the edge of the toilet, and dry–heaved until there was nothing left but bile.

It was sickening. It was utterly filthy.

I slumped onto the floor, staring at my pale face in the mirror. I touched my very visible, six–month bump.

I didn’t cry. My tears had already dried up completely on that hospital bed the night of my D&C.

The grand inheritance gala went off exactly as scheduled in the penthouse ballroom of LA’s most Tuxurious hotel.

Hordes of reporters had their cameras set up below the stage. Political heavyweights and corporate tycoons stood around holding champagne, laughing and socializing.

Wearing a tailored tuxedo, George stood proudly in the center of the stage under the spotlight. His face was flushed with excitement as he gripped the microphone, his booming voice announcing his pride to the world.

“Today marks a historic moment for the Williams family!”

“Right here, I will transfer the core assets of our family empire to my soon–to–be–born grandson!”

Thunderous applause erupted from the crowd.

Laura, wearing an evening gown encrusted with crushed diamonds, linked arms with Jake and Billy. She smiled so hard the wrinkles on her face bunched together, a fanatical gleam in her eyes.

“Now, please welcome my beautiful, magnificent daughter–in–law, Daisy Bennett!” George announced. loudly.

The eyes of the entire room. The blinding flash of countless cameras.

In that instant, everyone turned in unison toward the main entrance.

And there I was.

I was not wearing the loose, flowing maternity tulle dress Laura had custom–made for me to accentuate my “six–month bump.”

Instead, I was wearing a skin–tight, deep–V burgundy velvet haute couture gown and teetering on four–inch stilettos. My makeup was flawless, dramatic, and icy.

With my head held high, I walked slowly down the red carpet.

Click! Click! Click!

The camera flashes went wild. Suddenly, a series of sharp gasps rippled through the crowd. The symphony orchestra came to a screeching halt.

Because everyone could see it.

My stomach, which should have been visibly rounded, was perfectly, completely flat.

I didn’t look pregnant at all.

The smile on George’s face froze. Jake’s eyes bulged as he stared dead at my stomach.

“Daisy…” Laura’s voice trembled as she took a weak, wobbly step forward. “Where is my grandson?!”

I stepped onto the stage, looking down at their entire family, and let out a soft laugh.

I reached into my clutch and pulled out a single, thin piece of paper. Then, I slapped it viciously right against George’s chest!

It was a second–trimester abortion consent form, stamped with the hospital’s stark red seal.

In the most careless, nonchalant tone possible, I leaned into the microphone.

“The baby? Oh, I’m sorry. I just had him aborted last week.”
