The Reborn Luna’s Revenge Chapter 08
Thalia’s POVÂ
“Am I interrupting something?” Leo said.Â
Marcus spun around, his face twisted with rage. “Who the hell are you?”Â
I felt a wave of relief wash over me at Leo’s arrival.Â
“This has nothing to do with you,” I said firmly to Marcus. “You need to leave. Now.”Â
But Marcus wasn’t backing down. His fists were still clenched, his wolf practically snarling beneath the surface. “I asked you a question!” he barked at Leo. Who are you to interfere in pack business?”Â
Leo stepped forward, placing himself slightly between Marcus and me. When he spoke, his voice carried the unmistakable authority of an Alpha.Â
“I’m her suitor,” he said simply. “And I’m the Alpha of Moonfall Pack, I suggest you consider your next actions very carefully.”Â
The effect was immediate, Marcus’s face went pale, his aggressive stance faltering as the implications hit him. *Moonfall Pack… that’s a high–tier pack. He can’t afford to make enemies with them…*Â
Moonfall Pack wasn’t just wealthy, they were politically connected, influential. Even in his desperate state, Marcus wasn’t stupid enough to directly challenge an Alpha of Leo’s standing.Â
“This isn’t over, Thalia,” Marcus said through gritted teeth, but the fight had gone out of him. He shot me one last venomous glare before grabbing Freya’s arm. “Not by a long shot.”Â
They left without another word, Marcus practically dragging Freya behind him. I watched through the window as they got into their car and drove away, my heart still pounding from the confrontation.Â
“Are you all right?” Leo asked gently, dismissing the guards with a nod.Â
“I’m fine,” I said, though my hands were still shaking slightly. “Thank you for coming when you did.”Â
“Always,” he said simply.Â
Three months passed.Â
Leo’s pursuit was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. There was no pressure, no demands, just consistent, gentle care that gradually wore down my defenses.Â
He brought me to his horse ranch almost every weekend, where we’d ride through the mountains. and I’d feel that same sense of freedom I’d discovered that first day. He’d pack elaborate picnics, complete with my favorite foods that he’d somehow remembered from casual conversations.Â
Fresh flowers appeared on my doorstep every morning. Not expensive, showy arrangements, but simple bouquets that brightened my small house. Wildflowers from the mountain trails, daisies from his garden, sometimes just a single perfect rose.Â
*He’s wearing me down,* I realized one afternoon as I found myself actually looking forward to his daily text messages.Â
On a particularly beautiful evening in late June, Leo walked me home from dinner at a small restaurant in town.Â
“I heard some news about Marcus,” he said casually as we reached my front door.Â
I turned to look at him, surprised. I hadn’t heard anything about my former husband in weeks. “What kind of news?”Â
“He was expelled from Blackstone Pack before the territory evaluation even took place,” Leo said.Â
“I know,” I said quietly. “The new Alpha reached out to me through proper channels last month. I transferred all the pack assets back to them. They maintained their rank.”Â
“There’s more,” Leo said, his expression growing somber. “About Marcus and Freya.”Â
I waited.Â
“Apparently, once Marcus lost his Alpha status, whatever feelings existed between them completely disappeared,” Leo continued. “When the packÂ
expelled him, he forced Freya to leave with him. Her father tried to stop him, but…”Â
“But what?”Â
Leo’s jaw tightened with disgust. “He’s been abusing her. Regularly. The word is that he’s turned into a completely different person, violent, unpredictable. She was pregnant recently, and he…” He paused, as if the words were difficult to say. “He beat her so badly she lost the baby.”Â
I stared at him, feeling a complicated swirl of emotions. Whatever Freya had done to me, no woman deserved that kind of treatment.Â
“That’s horrible,” I said finally. “I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.”Â
“Karma has a way of evening things out,” Leo said quietly. “They destroyed what they thought they wanted, and now they’re destroying each other.”Â
We stood in comfortable silence for a moment.Â
“I should head home,” Leo said, but he made no move to leave. Instead, he stepped closer, “Thalia, I…”Â
“Leo,” I started to say, but he shook his head.Â
“Let me say this. These past three months, spending time with you, getting to know the real you, it’s been the best part of my life. I know you’re not ready for anything serious, and I’m not pushing. But I want you to know that whatever you need, however long it takes, I’m here.”Â
My heart clenched at the sincerity in his voice.Â
“Thank you,” I said softly. “For everything.”Â
He smiled, that gentle, understanding smile that had become so familiar. “Goodnight, Thalia.”Â
That peace was shattered exactly one week later.Â
I was saying goodbye to Leo after another evening walk when Marcus suddenly appeared from behind the hedge that bordered my small front yard.Â
“Thalia!” he called out desperately, stumbling toward me. “Please, I need to talk to you!”Â
His clothes were dirty and wrinkled, his hair unkempt, his eyes wild with desperation. He looked like he hadn’t slept in days.Â
“There’s nothing to talk about, Marcus,” I said firmly, instinctively moving closer to Leo. “You need to leave,Â
“No, please!” He dropped to his knees right there on my front lawn, his hands clasped together. “I’m begging you! I know I made mistakes, I know I hurt you, but please, forgive me! Take me back!“.Â
I stared down at him, feeling nothing but disgust. Forgive you? Take you back?”Â
“I was wrong about everything!” he continued frantically. “Freya, the pack, all of it! I should have chosen you from the beginning. I should have been honest!”Â
“Get up, Marcus,” I said coldly. “You’re embarrassing yourself.”Â
“I’ll do anything!” He scrambled to his feet, reaching for my hands. “Anything you want! We can start over, go somewhere new, build something together!”Â
I pulled my hands away from his grip. “I will never forgive you, Marcus. Not in this lifetime.”Â
*And not just for what you did in this lifetime,* I thought bitterly. *But for murdering our child in the last one. For killing me when I begged for mercy.*Â
Something in my expression must have finally convinced him that I was serious, because the desperate pleading in his eyes suddenly transformed into rage.Â
“Fine,” he snarled, “If I can’t have you, then no one can!”Â
Marcus shifted, launching himself directly at me with deadly intent.Â
My own wolf, Aria, surged forward as I shifted, meeting Marcus mid–air with a snarl of pure fury. We crashed to the ground in a tangle of teeth and claws, rolling across my front lawn as we fought.Â
Leo’s wolf joined the battle immediately, his massive form easily twice the size of Marcus’s smaller, weakened wolf. Together, we drove Marcus back, Leo‘ s powerful jaws closing around Marcus’s throat while I pinned his hindquarters.Â
Marcus struggled for a moment longer, then shifted back to human form, gasping and bleeding.Â
“This isn’t over,” he wheezed as he scrambled backward. “I’ll never stop coming for you!”Â
But even as he spoke, he was retreating, stumbling toward the street. Leo remained in wolf form until Marcus disappeared into the darkness, then shifted back, a deep gash across his left shoulder.Â
“Are you hurt?” I asked immediately, rushing to examine his wound.Â
“I’m fine,” he said, “Are you all right?”Â
“I’m fine.” I helped him into the house, “Leo, I’m so sorry you got hurt because of my problems.”Â
“Don’t apologize,” he said firmly. “I’ll always protect you, no matter what.”Â
Always.* The word settled into my heart with surprising warmth.Â
The next morning, Leo arrived at my house with news that left me stunned.Â
“We found him,” he said without preamble.Â
“Marcus?”Â
“Dead. Along with Freya.”Â
I sank into my kitchen chair, unable to process what he was telling me. “What happened?”Â
“After he left here last night, he went back to wherever they’d been staying. Freya was waiting for him.” Leo sat across from me, his expression grim. She must have seen his injuries, realized what had happened. According to the police report, she attacked him while he was sleeping. Stabbed him seventeen times.”Â
“And then?”Â
“Then she took her own life. Same knife.”Â
I stared at Leo, “She killed him?”Â
“Yeah. Apparently, she couldn’t take the abuse anymore.”Â
I let out a laugh. The irony was overwhelming. In my last life, Freya schemed and manipulated to get Marcus. In this one, she killed him with her own hands. How completely absurd.Â
Leo reached across the table and took my hand. “It’s over, Thalia. Really over.”Â
I looked at him, this man who’d protected me, pursued me patiently, shown me what real devotion looked like.Â
Life is so short,* I realized. *I’ve already wasted so much time on people who didn’t deserve it.*Â
“Leo,” I said softly.Â
“Yes?”Â
I squeezed his hand, feeling something shift inside my chest.Â
“I’d like to give you that chance,” I said. “Us. I’d like to try.”Â
The smile that spread across his face was radiant. ” Really?”Â
“Really. Starting today.”Â
He stood up and pulled me into his arms, holding me close, and kissed me softly.Â
