My Billionaire Husband Lost His Perfect Wife Overnight Chapter 07

The second they cleared me to leave, I left the hospital.

Everett had connections all over that hospital. It was only a

matter of time before someone told him where I was.

I never wanted to see him again.

I held the pocket watch they’d left me.

The only thing I had left of them.

My chest ached like something had been ripped out of it.

They were all I had.

Now they were both gone.

And it was my fault.

picked the wrong man, and they paid for it.

Once I had somewhere safe to stay, I called my lawyer and

filed a wrongful death suit against Everett and Vanessa.

Mr. Hartley, I have security footage from that day. The two of

them pushed my grandfather to suicide and scared my

grandmother into cardiac arrest.”

‘Is this enough to void the prenup and get my divorce?”

The lawyer nodded.

“With this kind of leverage, we can bypass the agreement entirely.”

Word got back to the Ashfords fast.

His mother called first.

Same voice. Same contempt.

“Tessa, you’re out of your mind!”

“What has this family ever done to you? You’re taking us to

court? Are you trying to ruin us?”

She’d never thought I was good enough.

The only time she’d warmed up was when she found out I was pregnant.

The second she learned it was a girl, the contempt came right back.

I was done swallowing it.

Mrs. Ashford, your son killed my grandparents. Why wouldn’t

take you to court?”

I’m not just suing. I’m filing for divorce.”

*After this, you and I have nothing left to say to each other.”

‘You…” She choked on her own rage.

I pulled the phone from my ear, but Everett’s voice cut in. She

must have put me on speaker.

“Tessa, you’ve gone way too far. The Ashfords are still your family.”

“Do you have any idea what a lawsuit will do to us?”

He talked about damage to the family.

Not a word about my grandparents.

I almost laughed.

“I’ll say this one more time. I’m divorcing you.”

I hung up.

My lawyer texted me that afternoon.

[Ms. Mercer, your evidence is solid. There’s a clear case for

wrongful death. We’re taking this all the way]

Thank you.]

Everett showed up the next day.

knew he would.

He grabbed my arm before I could close the door.

“Tessa, you can’t just leave. Do you really want nothing to do with me?”

I yanked my arm free.

“I told you on the phone. I want a divorce.”

“You got my grandparents killed. You cost me my baby. What

makes you think you get to stand here and ask me anything?”

held his gaze.

He looked away first.

The fight drained out of him.

I know I was wrong. I didn’t mean for any of it to happen. I’m

gutted about your grandparents. I had their urns placed in the Ashford family mausoleum.”

And the baby… we can try again. You’re still my wife.”

His wife.

The word tasted like rust in my mouth.

Like a few words could undo everything he’d destroyed.

looked at him and felt my mouth twist into something that wasn’t a smile.

You killed the only people I had, and you think I’ll forgive you? You’re delusional.”

And stop calling me your wife. It makes me sick.
