I Was The New Boss, She Told Me To Take The Freight Elevator Chapter 03
I froze for a moment. I never expected her to actually hit someone.
I quickly pushed her away. “That’s enough! You can’t just slap people!”
Lia let out a cold laugh. Then she raised her hand and slapped me hard across the face.
“I’m not just hitting her. I’m hitting you too!”
“I’ve put up with you long enough! Now! Immediately! Get out of here!”
“Or I won’t be nice to you anymore!”
At that moment, the people from the HR department heard the commotion outside and hurriedly pushed open the door.
The woman leading them was Kori Gray, the HR manager. The moment she saw me, she immediately recognized that I was the new president who had just been transferred in today.
Her face instantly turned pale. She glared at Lia and shouted, “Lia! What have you done?”
Lia narrowed her eyes and looked coldly at Kori.
“Kori, does HR want to be shut down? You’re hiring interns of this caliber now?”
She pointed at me, her tone becoming even more vicious.
“Let me tell you, today, just because she used Mr. Hewitt’s elevator, I’ll have to get the whole thing deep–cleaned inside and out.
“That’s at least five grand. Hope HR’s ready to foot the bill.”
I almost laughed from anger. “Five thousand dollars just for taking an elevator? That’s extortion!”
“Also, do you even realize that what you just did constitutes workplace violence and intentional assault?”
“I reserve the right to hold you legally responsible.”
Lia froze for a second. Then she laughed. “Hold me responsible? You?”
“Let me tell you something. Here, Mr. Hewitt calls every shot.”
“With Mr. Hewitt backing me, what can you possibly do to me?”
She turned to Kori, face sour. “Kori, revoke her internship. Now. After today, I don’t want to see her in this company again!”
“Otherwise, when Mr. Hewitt finishes his meeting, I’ll hold you responsible too!”
Only then did Kori snap back to reality. But she ignored Lia completely. Instead, she hurried over and helped
me steady myself.
Before she could even ask if I was okay, Lia grabbed her arm and pulled her away. “Didn’t you hear what I said? Why are you helping an intern?”
Then she looked me up and down. “Could she be
someone you brought in through connections?”
“No wonder she’s so arrogant. She even dares to ignore me!”
The other employees around them immediately frowned after hearing that. They began criticizing Kori.
“Kori, that’s not right, is it?”
“We’ve worked together for so many years. Before, I
asked you to arrange a position for my son and you refused. But now you’re bringing in someone through connections yourself?”
“We only show you respect because you’ve been here
so long. How could you do something like this?”
“Exactly! Luckily, Ms. Sandoval has sharp eyes. She
noticed right away that your connection hire was suspicious.”
“That slap just now? So satisfying.”
“What?” Kori panicked and whipped her head toward me.
When she saw the red mark on my cheek, her eyes
widened. “You’re insane! How could you hit her? Do you even know who she is…”
Before she could finish, I grabbed her hand and gently shook my head.
I didn’t want to reveal my identity so soon.
I wanted to see just how far Lia’s abuse of power could go. It would also give me a chance to properly decide who in this company was worth keeping.
Kori seemed to understand what I meant. She gritted her teeth and swallowed the rest of her words.
Seeing that, Lia crossed her arms proudly and looked at Kori. “What is she? Your sister? Or your daughter?”
“Whoever she is, deal with her immediately.”
At that moment, the meeting room door at the end of the hallway was pushed open.
