He Welcomed Her Pup While Mine Was Cremated Chapter 09
POV: Maris Alden
Brennan jerked his head up as if he’d seen a glimmer of hope.
“Maris, I was stupid. I got it in my head that my father was just
using me to settle a blood debt. That’s why I did all those horrible things.”
“I really know I was wrong. I’ll treat you right from now on. Please,
Maris, forgive me. Give me one chance. We are still young. We can have another pup.”
God, it was sickening. This man was a bastard beyond saving.
I couldn’t hold back anymore and slapped him hard across the face.
“No
pup will ever replace Elara. You still don’t understand. That is
why I will never forgive you.”
“You think I don’t know why you hurt me and Elara?”
“You hate that you’ve been shackled by pack duty since birth. You
hate that Alpha Garrick and Luna Beatrice always interfere in your
life. But you can’t give up the superiority and privilege that the Holt
bloodline gives you.”
“So you–an arrogant coward–decided to rebel against your own
marriage just to prove some point. Because hurting me and Elara?
That barely cost you a thing.”
That was the last shred of his excuse ripped away. Brennan couldn’t
say another word.
“Brennan, you are the most disgusting, self–serving coward I have
ever known. You shame the Holt bloodline, and you shame the Northbridge Pack.”
“If you’re truly sorry, then let me go. And let our daughter rest.”
With those words, I didn’t look at him again. I slammed the door in his face.
I don’t know when Brennan left.
I only know that when I opened the door the next day, no one was
there. Only the bond dissolution papers lay quietly on the doorstep.
In the end, Brennan had signed.
A month later, after the cooling–off period, I went back to finalize the divorce.
After getting the divorce decree, I sat with Beatrice in a café. For a
moment, neither of us spoke.
From Beatrice, I learned what had happened during this time.
After returning from the Springmere Pack, Brennan stayed in his
room all day, drowning his sorrows in alcohol and refusing to let any servant near him.
For a full week, he didn’t leave that room.
Until Garrick couldn’t take it anymore and broke the door down,
only to find him unconscious inside.
Beatrice forcibly took him to the pack hospital.
The Healer said he had a severe psychological condition that
required long–term treatment.
As for Keira. After losing her pup, she came to the pack house and made a scene.
But Garrick was swift and decisive. How could he be manipulated by a woman like her?
He threw out a stack of evidence, sued Keira for embezzling pack
public property, and had her thrown into prison.
After saying all this, Beatrice glanced at me cautiously. “Brennan’s
mental state is really bad right now. Do you want to…”
Before she could finish, I shook my head. “No. He and I–we’re way
past that. We can’t just sit down and talk like everything’s fine.”
Beatrice let out a deep sigh. “Actually, Alpha Garrick didn’t agree to
let me come see you. He said that for you right now, it’s best if we
don’t meet. But I had to see you one more time.”
“No matter what, I want you to know that we’ll always consider you
family. I just hope you won’t hate Brennan.”
I smiled and didn’t answer.
My thoughts drifted back to when I was eighteen.
Eighteen–year–old Brennan stood before me, his gaze firm. “Maris, can I be with you?”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be good to you. I swear.”
I don’t know if Brennan was sincere that day.
I only know that I was sincere that day.
I tipped my head back and finished my coffee in one gulp, then grabbed my bag and left the café.
I couldn’t give Beatrice what she wanted.
Because I will never forgive Brennan Holt.
Never.
