The Radio Secret – My Sister In Love with My Fiance Chapter 03
I carried Calista’s bag back to the hospital. Through a thin crack in the door, I watched her curled up tight against Logan’s chest.
Logan held her bandaged wrist gently in his palms, grief lay bare on his face. “How could you be so reckless? What would I do if you’d left me?”
Calista’s eyes glistened red with tears. “If I was gone, you and Sis could live happily together, and I wouldn’t have to hurt like this anymore.”
Logan pressed a soft, reverent kiss to the bandages wrapped around her cuts. “I’m going to tell Rosie everything. I’ll beg her to forgive us.‘
“No!” Calista snapped the second he said it, panic spiking in her voice. “She gave me my entire life. I can’t hurt her like that.”
“Then what am I supposed to do?” Logan’s voice cracked into a low shout. “Watch you kill yourself?”
Calista’s tears fell faster. “I won’t try anything stupid
again. I’ll stand aside and be happy for the two of you.”
“Logan… put a ring on my finger, just for a second. Let it be our quiet goodbye to whatever this is between us.”
Logan pulled the wedding band meant for me out of his jacket pocket and slid it slow onto Calista’s left ring finger.
Calista smiled softly through her tears. “This is enough for me. I get to be your bride, even if it’s only for a minute.”
I stood frozen in the doorway, watching their private, intimate imitation of a wedding ceremony.
If they’d been any two strangers, I might’ve felt a flicker of sympathy for their forbidden love. But they were my sister and my fiancé, and my empty stomach twisted so violently my chest ached, nausea burning up my throat with nowhere to go.
My phone blared, shattering the tender, tragic bubble inside the hospital room. I fumbled to silence it, but Calista and Logan had already spotted me. Both of them stiffened, overcome with guilt and panic.
Logan stepped forward to take the clothes from my arms, reaching for my hand. “You’re back faster than I thought.”
The nausea spiked worse, and I pulled my hand away before his skin could touch mine, walking over to her bed. “I just worried about Calista.
Calista swiped wildly at her wet cheeks, but the silver band glinting on her finger gave her away instantly.
“I just… I asked if I could see how it looked. Just to see.”
She struggled to yank the ring off, her finger turning bright red from her desperate tugs. Logan watched her struggle, his face tight with sympathy, too afraid to step in and help.
“Don’t pull that hard-”
I didn’t get to finish my sentence before she ripped the ring free and jammed it toward my hand. “Here, it’s yours. I’d never steal it from you, I swear.”
The band hung slack on my finger, then slid free and struck the linoleum with a hollow click.
My hands had always been slender. Logan used to
sneakily wrap his fingers around mine to measure my ring size back when we were still planning the wedding.
“I’ll make sure I get the perfect fit for you, no mistakes.”
He’d gotten the size right–just not for me.
Logan’s and my phones buzzed nonstop. Word had spread that we’d canceled our wedding, and every
friend and family member blew up our lines begging for an explanation.
Logan stepped back into the room after taking several calls, turning to me to talk things through. “Rosie, about the wedding…”
“I already told them to cancel it. We can revisit it later.”
A flicker of obvious relief crossed Logan’s face. “Alright, whatever you want. We can hold off a few
months–weddings don’t have to be rushed.”
I bit down hard on the inside of my cheek until I tasted iron, clinging to my self–control so I wouldn’t break
down right there.
Before I left for Germany, Logan had clung to me every
single night, begging to sign our marriage license before I flew overseas.
“Marry me first, honey. I want everyone to know you’re mine.”
Now the thought of delaying our wedding only lifted a weight off his shoulders.
“We can’t wait! You two can’t call it off!” Calista
grabbed both my hands, panic rising in her tone. “This
is all my fault. I promise I won’t hurt myself again.”
“Calista, this is between Rosie and me. Focus on recovering-”
“No!” Her voice hit a sharp, shrill pitch. “I won’t ruin my sister’s happiness.”
Logan saw her growing hysterical and rushed to calm
her down. “I promise you, I will marry Rosie. Just breathe, okay?”
Calista stared up at him with wide, innocent eyes. “Really? You two will still get married?”
Logan’s jaw tightened, and he forced out a reply. “Yes.
We will.”
I stood off to the side, watching them make all the decisions for my life without a single word of input from me. My voice had no shape here. My life was being decided in a room where I no longer existed.
