She Bet Against Me, I Bet On Myself Chapter 05

She Bet Against Me, I Bet On Myself Chapter 05

The moment the door opened, the laughter died instantly

Over twenty pairs of eyes snapped straight to me

The classmate nearest the door froze for a few seconds, then shot to

his feet. Excuse me, who are you looking for?”

Another guy quickly shoved his chair aside. Did you get the wrong room?”

No worries, come join us anyway.”

The very same people complaining about chair space earlier were

now practically tripping over themselves to be friendly

Someone even cleared the seat next to Cora

Have a seat here!”

I didn’t budge. My eyes swept straight to the middle of the room

Two chairs shoved together

A digital scale

And hanging right on the wall was that oversized, old uniform

[Glenda’s Reserved Oversized Seating.

Someone followed my gaze and winced. Oh, thatthat was just joke.”

The person we’re waiting for isn’t here yet.”

Don’t get the wrong idea.”

I almost laughed

So they did know how vile that kind of jokereally was

In the middle of the couch, Neil sat straight up

His eyes hadn’t left me since I walked through the door

Vicky clearly noticed, tightening her grip on his arm. Do you know her?”

No.”

He denied it, but he got to his feet anyway, his tone noticeably softer than before

This is a high school reunion. Are you sure you’re in the right place?”

I looked at him without saying a word

Back in high school, I waited by the classroom door for him every morning

He’d been too embarrassed to even look my way

Now I stood right in front of him. And he couldn’t even recognize me

Cora was sizing me up too, the smile dropping from her face

A few guys started whispering amongst themselves

Who is she? She’s gorgeous.”

Way hotter than Cora.”

Not even in the same league, honestly.”

Cora’s fingers clamped tightly around her glass

But she quickly forced a tight smile. Were you in our class too? How

come I don’t remember you?”

Are you hotel staff or something?”

She emphasized staff, desperately trying to save face

Still ignoring her, I walked straight into the room

Everyone’s eyes tracked my every move

One guy pulled out his phone, covertly fixing his hair

The guy who had joked about a freight elevator stepped forward to

hand me a drink. Hey, mind if I introduce myself? I’m Rayden

Harvey, from Class Three.”

I didn’t take the glass

Instead, I stopped right in front of the two chairs pushed together

Seeing this, Cora perked up with a smirk. Oh, you can’t sit there

That’s reserved for an old classmate.”

She has aunique build. One chair might not hold her weight.”

A few snickers rippled through the room

Vicky gave me a onceover and sneered, You’re so skinny, you

wouldn’t get it. Some people eat in one meal what others eat in three days.”

Neil frowned at her. Knock it off.”

Vicky’s expression instantly soured. I was talking about Glenda– why do you care?”

Neil hurried to explain, I didn’t. I just think we shouldn’t talk about

that in front of a stranger.”

A stranger

I slowly slid my coat off my shoulders and draped it over the back of the chair

The black velvet gown clung perfectly to my figure, highlighting my narrow waist

Silence fell over the room once again

Neil stared at me, an unmistakable heat in his eyes. May I ask your name?”

He took several steps toward me

My eyes swept over the old uniform on the wall, then landed on the crowd

Guess you really don’t recognize me.”

Allow me to introduce myself.”

I looked up, enunciating every word

I’m Glenda.”
