The Alpha’s Final Lesson: I Played Along, Then Left Him Forever Chapter 08

The Alpha’s Final Lesson: I Played Along, Then Left Him Forever Chapter 08

The next two weeks brought nothing but rain to Ravencrest

The workload was brutal. Most nights I didn’t leave the pack office before ten

Ronan didn’t leave. He’d worked something out with his

father: a partnership deal with Ravencrest that gave him a

reason to stay. They set him up with a temporary office inside the pack hall

One night at eleven, I stepped out of the pack council hall

Ronan was under the streetlight, waiting. He always had hot meal

Eat. Don’t skip meals; your stomach can’t handle it.”

I didn’t take it. Didn’t look at him

Excuse me.”

was too buried in work to waste the energy fighting him off

He took my silence as a crack in the wall

One day, I called a car to inspect the pack’s training camp

Didn’t feel like driving. I climbed in and realized Ronan was behind the wheel

He’d paid the driver’s fullday rate just to take that one ride with me

The AC was set to exactly seventyeight degrees

He was trying to undo every wrong, one detail at a time

But all of it felt like a performance I hadn’t asked to watch

It went on like that until a rainy night at the end of the month

I walked out of the office into a downpour

Ronan was at the bottom of the steps, holding a black umbrella

A thick document envelope sat in his other hand

Zoe.”

He crossed the distance fast and angled the umbrella over my head

Rain soaked half his shoulder instantly. He held out handful of moonstones

I put my Alpha power into every single one. I’ll train with you myself. With these, you could go for a seat on the Royal Werewolf Council.”

He pulled up a video on his phone

A snowwhite Samoyed puppy tumbled across a patch of grass, ears flopping

Look. She looks just like Poppy did when she was little. Vet

check’s done. She can be here tomorrow.”

Something fragile flickered behind his eyes. Hope. Barely there

My phone rang. Ravencrest Pack registry

Beta Zoe, congratulations. Your transfer is officially

complete. You’re a full member of Ravencrest Pack.”

Thank you.”

I hung up

Ronan’s hand, the one still holding the phone with the puppy video, went rigid

Youyou actually joined Ravencrest?”

The absurdity of his own question hit him a moment later

I was already their Beta. Of course I was one of them

It landed on him all at once. Everything he’d done, the meals

the moonstones, the puppy, was just noise before the verdict

The realization that he’d lost his Zoe, lost me permanently

drove through him like a silver blade between the ribs

His wolf let out a sound that was barely a howl. More like Scream

He stumbled back two steps and dropped. Just went downknees hitting the wet ground

He looked up at me, and there was nothing left in his face. No

arrogance. No charm. Nothing

Zoe”

Looking at him on his knees in the rain, I searched myself for sympathy. Found none

I looked at him coldly. Ronan, stop. None of this matters anymore.”

You’ll never have me again.”

My words were the last straw that broke him. I watched it happen

I turned and walked away, just as resolutely as when I severed

bur mate bond in his territory. No hesitation

I didn’t look back. Didn’t let the sound of him breaking reach me

The next morning, I walked into the pack hall and that scent

that once made my heart flutter was gone

Someone new sat in his temporary office. A Blackridge Pack senior badge on their chest

Ronan had finally learned to give up

I looked away

I had a full day ahead of me
