Deaf to the Pack Chapter 09
I hadn’t seen Adrian in days.
After everything that happened, Soren took me to stay in another territory.
I left everything behind at the Frostvale Pack estate.
I didn’t take a single thing with me.
Alpha Richard and Luna Evelyn called several times, asking to see me.
Soren refused every time.
We failed Celine. That’s why she got hurt. But-”
STOP.”
Soren cut them off coldly.
“You failed her. That’s all there is to it.”
*Seeing Celine now won’t change anything.”
After that, Soren stopped answering their calls altogether.
And now Adrian was standing in front of us.
I said nothing.
With a heavy thud, Adrian dropped to his knees in front of Soren and me.
“Soren, please.”
“Don’t take Celine away.”
“I know I was wrong.”
“I really do.”
“I’ll take good care of her from now on.”
Ten years ago, eight–year–old Adrian had knelt in front of Soren just like this.
Back then, he’d cried and begged Soren to let me stay.
Ten years later, he was on his knees again.
Only this time, he was begging me to stay because of the
mistakes he’d made himself.
Adrian had never imagined that a game he’d thought up on
a whim would cost him me for good.
He thought I couldn’t live without him.
He thought I’d always choose him.
But the world kept turning, no matter who was gone.
Ten years ago, I could still feel sorry for the eight–year–old you.”
Soren’s voice was cold and final.
“But the eighteen–year–old you won’t change my mind.”
“I won’t make the same mistake twice.”
Those words destroyed the last bit of hope Adrian had left.
On the day we left, I had no idea how Adrian found out.
Adrian completely lost control and partially shifted, his claws
and wolf features breaking through as he chased our car down the road.
He kept pushing himself harder, refusing to fall behind.
Then he lost control at a turn and crashed.
Before departure, I received a call from Luna Evelyn.
Celine, please.”
Please come back and see Adrian.”
The woman on the other end was crying so hard that even I
felt a dull ache in my chest.
On the tarmac, preparations for departure had already. begun.
I tightened my grip on my phone and ended the call.
Then I sent her a message.
[I’m not a healer. I can’t save him.]
[Luna Evelyn, whatever ties we had end here.]
After sending it, I tossed my phone into the trash.
The phone hit the bottom of the trash can with a dull thud.
With it, I finally left my past behind.
After arriving in the Capital Territory, I continued my
werewolf studies and training while receiving treatment fromh a Mind Healer.
After my eighteenth birthday, I could finally make faint.
sounds again.
But I was still a long way from being able to speak.
Soren was thrilled.
He arranged a grand clan banquet to celebrate.
At the banquet, I heard Adrian’s name..
Someone was talking about the serious complications he’d
suffered after the accident.
Even now, he still walked with a limp.
He used to be the golden boy of the Alpha circles.”
Now look at him…”
What a shame.”
I walked past them with a glass in my hand.
As if I were passing the last trace of Adrian in my life.
Later, I was accepted into one of the elite academies in the Capital Territory.
Soren was so happy that he spread the news throughout the
Ashford Clan and started planning another grand clan banquet.
That night, I received an email from Adrian.
He congratulated me on getting into one of the elite
academies in the Capital Territory and wished me well.
read it.
I didn’t reply.
Then I blocked him.
The name Adrian Frostvale should’ve been erased from my
life a long time ago.
My life had already moved on without him.
Only the weak stayed trapped in the past.
