Lost the Bet on Our Anniversary, Ended the Relationship She Scriptted Chapter 05
At the same time, Evan was out shopping with Sienna.Â
After Aria posted her statement, public opinion began to shift.Â
Once hospital security footage surfaced online, plenty ofÂ
people still criticized Aria, but others started questioning Sienna instead.Â
“Their relationship was never her business. Honestly, SiennaÂ
is giving major pick–me energy.”Â
Sienna hated the backlash and spent the next few daysÂ
dragging Evan around town to distract herself.Â
But Evan was barely present.Â
He entered the wrong PIN at checkout, nearly walked into aÂ
display, and made Sienna repeat herself more than once.Â
He couldn’t explain what was wrong.Â
There was just a constant pressure in his chest, as thoughÂ
something important had disappeared from his life.Â
Then the lawsuit arrived.Â
Aria had named both Evan and Sienna in a defamation caseÂ
over the posts, the false accusations about her relationships,Â
and the way they had used her face blindness to stir up online attention.Â
Evan stared at the papers.Â
“How did it get this far? Aria never blows up over things. SheÂ
hasn’t spoken to me in days, and now I’m getting served?”Â
Sienna’s expression hardened.Â
“You’re still defending her? She’s been playing you this entireÂ
time. Has she contacted you once? No. The lawsuit is justÂ
another way to scare you into going back and apologizing.”Â
Evan frowned.Â
“Sienna, you’ve always been too hard on her. She’s not theÂ
person you keep making her out to be. Her face blindness isÂ
real. She’s dealt with it her entire life.”Â
He paused.Â
“She’s been through a lot too.”Â
Sienna stopped walking and spun toward him.Â
Her eyes immediately filled with tears.Â
“What exactly is that supposed to mean, Evan? Whose side are you on?”Â
“She’s been through a lot? What about me? I came up withÂ
all those ideas because I didn’t want some girl fooling youÂ
while you stood there looking stupid. I was trying to protectÂ
you. And now you’re choosing her over your best friend?”Â
In the past, Evan would have rushed to calm her down.Â
This time, he just felt exhausted.Â
He couldn’t even summon the energy to say the usual reassuring words.Â
Sienna waited.Â
When he said nothing, disappointment flashed across her face and she turned away.Â
Every other time she stormed off, Evan had gone after her.Â
This time, he stayed where he was.Â
He knew he should follow.Â
Instead, all he could think about was Aria.Â
He remembered the first time he confessed his feelings to her.Â
She had frowned and rejected him immediately.Â
“I have face blindness. Relationships aren’t easy for someone like me.”Â
Back then, Evan had brushed off the warning.Â
He had believed love would be enough.Â
So he asked Sienna for help proving to Aria that he was serious.Â
Sienna was his oldest friend and, eventually, his self–appointed dating coach,Â
With her advice, he went all in.Â
He waited for Aria after class, checked her social media toÂ
learn what she liked, and planned little surprises around those details.Â
He also let Sienna help write some of his messages.Â
His excuse had always been simple.Â
“I’ve never had a girlfriend. I’m clueless, and I’m scared I’ll say something stupid and ruin this.”Â
Eventually, Aria believed his persistence was genuine and agreed to give him a chance.Â
Only after they started dating did Evan realize how severe her face blindness actually was.Â
They could talk for hours on the phone.Â
They could spend an entire day together and never run out of things to say.Â
But recognizing him in a crowd was different.Â
In four years together, Aria had never once been able to pick him out by his face alone.Â
At first, Evan told himself it didn’t matter.Â
Over time, though, disappointment crept in.Â
And with Sienna constantly feeding those doubts, he started turning that disappointment against Aria.Â
