My Fiance Took My Cousin to Our Wedding Photoshoot. Ok, I Canceled the Wedding Chapter 04
Nathaniel froze, his eyes scanning my face for a moment.
“You have an allergy?”
He handed the ointment back to me.
“Sorry, I didn’t notice just now.
You’re about to get your IV, right?
Go ahead, I’ll come keep you company once Delilah’s settled.”
I took the ointment and walked straight to the infusion room.
The nurse looked at the rash covering my face and frowned.
“Your allergy is pretty severe.
Did you not call any family to come with you?”
“I did.
They’re busy,” I said.
“What’s more important than a family member’s
life?” the nurse muttered.
“With allergies like this, if it’s not handled right, it can be fatal.”
I smiled faintly and said nothing.
Outside the glass door, Nathaniel hurried past with his arm around Delilah.
“Alright, you crybaby, I’ll take you out for pizza, okay?” he cooed.
“But I’m warning you. With your wound, you can only
have one slice at most.”
My mom trailed behind them, teasing.
“Nathaniel, you’re spoiling her rotten!
One day she’ll be completely impossible to handle!”
“Impossible or not, I’ll be there to catch her.”
“Nathaniel, you’re the best to me.”
Their voices faded away.
I silently looked away.
A lump rose in my throat.
By the time all three IV bags had drained, Nathaniel still hadn’t shown up.
Before leaving the hospital, I got a message from him.
[Sorry, Vivian, I was just taking Delilah for pizza and lost track of time.
Forgot you were still at the hospital.
Your allergy’s cleared up, right?
If so, just grab a cab home.]
He’d forgotten again.
How many times was this now?
While I was lost in thought, my phone buzzed again.
[Oh, and tomorrow I’m taking Delilah to pick out a dress for her concert.
I’ll see you at the church on the wedding day.
There won’t be a next time.]
I said to myself.
Nathaniel, there’s no future for us.
Three days later, I woke up and the house was empty.
A message from my mom sat quietly in my phone.
[Vivian, we’re all taking Delilah to the comic convention.
Nathaniel’s arranged a car for you.
Head to the hotel first, and we’ll be there by twelve, no later.]
I calmly turned off my phone and went downstairs, walking straight toward a black SUV.
As I settled into my seat, the person in the front turned
around and grinned.
“So?
Not late, am I?”
“Mm,” I smiled back.
“Not late at all.”
At the concert, Nathaniel was distracted the whole
time, constantly glancing at his phone.
Vivian still hadn’t replied to his messages.
Had she made it to the church yet?
He was running late today. She wouldn’t be mad, would she?
His heart started pounding with an uneasy feeling.
Just then, his phone rang.
It was his best buddy calling.
“Nathaniel, which church is your wedding at again?
We can’t find you anywhere.”
“I’m tied up with something right now.
Vivian’s at the church,” Nathaniel explained.
“Call Vivian, she’ll take you there.
I’ll be a little late.‘
“Bro, we can’t get through to Vivian at all!”
Nathaniel’s heart sank.
Then, his friend shouted over the phone.
“Hey, I just asked the church staff.
They said there’s no wedding scheduled today at all!”
When Nathaniel got to the hotel, a huge crowd of family and friends was already waiting in the lobby.
The staff kept insisting.
“I’m sorry, but we don’t have any wedding booked today.”
“How is that possible?”
Nathaniel frowned, finding it absurd.
“Are you sure you’re not mistaken?
Check again. We reserved it two weeks ago.
How can there be no wedding?”
The front desk clerk told him.
“Sir, I do see a reservation for today in our system, but it was canceled last week.”
“Canceled?”
Nathaniel was stunned.
“Who canceled it?”
“One moment, let me check. It was canceled by Ms.
Vivian Morrow.”
Nathaniel stood frozen in place.
