My Fiance Took My Cousin to Our Wedding Photoshoot. Ok, I Canceled the Wedding Chapter 03
“Are you mad at me?”
Nathaniel just thought I was throwing a tantrum.
He pulled a signed photo out of his pocket and shoved
it into my hand.
“The Cristiano Ronaldo autograph you wanted.
I got it for you.”
He pinched my cheek like he was soothing a child.
“You didn’t really think I came back empty–handed, did you?
So?
Happy?”
Happy?
“No.”
I pushed the photo back to him.
“Nathaniel, I like Mbappé,”
He used to remember that so clearly.
What I liked, what I didn’t. He knew it all by heart.
But somewhere along the way, he’d slowly forgotten everything.
He started remembering what Delilah liked to eat,
what Delilah liked to do, which celebrities Delilah was into.
His whole world seemed to have room only for Delilah now.
“Vivian, are you throwing a fit at me?”
Nathaniel rubbed his forehead, looking exasperated.
“Can’t you be more like Delilah?
Everything I give her, she says she loves it.
She never complains.”
“If she’s so great,” I said flatly, “then marry her.”
“Vivian!”
Nathaniel cut me off, dead serious.
“I’ve got a million things on my plate every day.
How am I supposed to keep track of who you like?
Ronaldo and Mbappé. They’re basically the same, aren’t they?
Why do you have to make a big deal out of this?”
“They’re not the same.”
Before I could finish, Delilah’s voice called from the doorway.
“Nathaniel. I think my wound’s infected!
Take me to the hospital, please!”
“Coming!”
Nathaniel turned and left without a second thought.
Watching his retreating back, I silently finished the
sentence in my head.
Ronaldo and Mbappé are not the same.
Just like me and Delilah are not the same.
Half an hour later, I started feeling itchy all over.
Little red bumps broke out on my face.
When I went downstairs, there was no one home.
Everyone had gone to the hospital with Delilah.
I went out, hailed a cab, and went to the hospital alone.
After getting my meds, I was on my way to get an IV
when I ran into some familiar faces in the hallway.
Nathaniel was down on one knee, carefully applying
medicine to Delilah’s hand.
My mom had her arm around Delilah’s shoulder,
gently patting her back.
“Don’t be scared, Delilah.
Just bear with it, the pain will pass.”
Delilah spotted me first.
“Vivian, what are you doing here?” she called out cheerfully.
“What’s wrong?
Are you sick?”
“I’m a little.”
Before I could finish, my mom cut me off.
“What could possibly be wrong with Vivian?
She’s just here to check on you, that’s all.”
Nathaniel chimed in.
“Exactly, Vivian’s always been tough as nails.
What could happen to her?
You’re the one with the bad cut, and here you are worrying about everyone else.”
With that, Nathaniel snatched the ointment out of my hand.
“Is this for Delilah?”
He turned and softened his voice for her.
“See, Delilah?
Vivian cares about you so much. She even came all the
way here to bring you medicine.”
This was my medicine.
Could they not see the obvious red rash all over my face?
My mom clutched Delilah’s hand, her voice full of worry.
“Delilah, be more careful from now on.
You scared me half to death today.
If anything happened to you, I’d never forgive myself, I’d have failed your mother.”
Nathaniel added.
“Delilah, your skin’s so delicate. We absolutely can’t let this scar.”
I couldn’t take it anymore.
I cut in to stop them.
“Nathaniel, that ointment is for me.
It’s an allergy cream.
Can’t you see that?”
