The Gamma He Thought Could Survive Anything Chapter 07

Lyra’s POV

When I came to, I was in the clinic of a neighboring pack

A nurse smiled at me

Two hours observation. Temp stays normal, no discomfort you’re out.”

I touched my chest. My heartbeat. Still unreal

I’m really alive

Two hours later, I got out of bed, ready to leave

The nurse stopped me. The guy who came in with you –not gonna check on him?”

She pulled the curtain. A young man in the next bed smiled, shy

After talking with him for a while, I finally learned what had happened

His name was Dorian Vex

He’d been hiking through the mountains that day, looking for inspiration, when he found me and rescued me

On the way down, he’d slipped down a small landslide

I escaped without a scratch. He broke his arm

Since he’d taken a different route off the mountain, no

one from Mossvale Pack had ever found us

I looked at Dorian’s pale face and fell silent

The one closest to me stole my survival. A stranger broke his arm to save me

What is it?”

I snapped back. Nothing.”

Dorian smiled. If you’re bored, you don’t have to stay

I’m fine alone.”

I shook my head

I can’t. I’ve been given a mission.”

My mom had told me to look after the man who saved my life

Two hours later, Mom arrived carrying bags full of food and supplies

Theron came with her

The moment I saw him, I expected hatred, I expected resentment. Instead, I felt nothing

After surviving death once, I understood just how precious life really was

I wouldn’t waste another second on someone who drained me

I never told Mom what Theron had done. Didn’t want her to worry

It had only been two days. He’d thinned. Dark circles

exhaustion carved into his face

He stepped closer, eyes glistening

Lyra. You’re here. Thank the Moon Goddess.”

He reached out, careful

I thought this was a dream. Every night, you left.”

I slapped his hand away

In reality, I’m leaving too.”

Respect the boundary.”

Dorian called from behind me

Lyra? Could you wash an apple for me?”

I hesitated for a second before nodding

Theron stepped in front of me

He stared at Dorian, his expression turning hostile

Who is he?

My voice stayed cold. None of your business.”

Theron frowned

None of my-?We”

He stopped. Embarrassment flickered

I shrugged. We’re done. You believe in maximum

returns, right? Don’t waste time on a loss. Cut it.”

Theron stood there, frozen

I picked out an apple from the bag, washed it, then

carved it into a little rabbit before handing it to Dorian

His eyes curved. He studied the rabbit like he didn’t know where to bite

I’m about to destroy a tiny work of art.”

Theron leaned against the wall, watching us quietly

His expression was unreadable

By the time I started washing the grapes, he was gone

After he left, I turned to Dorian

Sorry. Used you back there.”

Seeing him act normalit grated

How do you hurt someone like that and just stand there

So I wanted to see him pushed aside

I saw it. The shock. Regret. But it didn’t feel good

Staring at someone else’s regret only drains you

Seeing yourself is what heals

Dorian chuckled. That was pretty childish.”

He smiled. It’s okay.”
