Chapter 5
I was drifting off to sleep when the Mattress next to me suddenly sank.
Then, a hand gently rested on my belly, almost as if testing the waters.
I tensed up for a Moment, but quickly tried to relax.
The More he doted on the baby, the more it played to my advantage.
‘Can you book us in for a prenatal checkup this Saturday? Jack said.
‘Okay, I replied.
‘Is there anything you feel like eating?” he asked.
‘No,‘ I said.
Because I’d been sick lately, my appetite had been
terrible.
But right now, our little guy was just a bunch of cells, so he didn’t need much nutrition anyway.
“If you get a craving for anything, just let me know. I’ll cook it for you when I get home tonight, Jack said.
“Okay,‘ I replied.
Jack rested his hand on my belly for a while before finally letting go.
I felt a pang of reluctance.
His palm was so warm, soothing against my stomach.
Just as I was missing his touch, he reached out and pulled me into his arms.
I cheered inwardly, rolling over and burrowing into his embrace all on my own.
He froze for a Moment, then hugged me tighter, pulling Me close.
It was something he’d never done before.
Before this, the only time we ever got close was during
sex. Even sharing a bed, we’d always stay on our own
sides.
Listening to his strong, steady heartbeat, I felt a kind of peace and happiness I’d never felt before.
‘Honey,‘ Jack Murmured.
“Yeah?” I replied.
Jack didn’t say anything. Instead, he just leaned in and kissed me right on the lips.
I didn’t pull away.
Just as things were starting to heat up, he suddenly stopped, sounding a little sulky.
‘So… does this mean we can’t do it anymore?‘ he asked.
I didn’t even know what to say.
I mean, he wasn’t wrong, but did he have to say it like that?
He used to be so reserved. Whenever it was time to get intimate, he’d always ask so politely, ‘Is tonight okay?”
Thinking about our son who remembered his previous life, I gave Jack an embarrassed, annoyed pinch. “Can you be a little more civilized?”
Jack chuckled. Alright. A year will go by in no time. Besides, there are other things we can do…”
I got it instantly and quickly slapped my hand over his Mouth.
‘From now on, you have to use proper language! Our kid’s Manners start with prenatal education,‘ I insisted.
Jack let out a soft laugh, caught my hand, and pressed a kiss to my palm.
*At your command, my lady. Jack said with a playful grin.
I was riding a little high for a couple of seconds, but then a nagging thought crept in.
I grumbled under my breath.
‘Who was that girl who answered your phone yesterday?” I asked, my voice low and a little sulky.
Jack blinked in surprise. ‘Wait, you called me yesterday?”
‘Did I not call you?‘ I Mumbled, suddenly second–guessing Myself.
Jack frowned, trying to jog his memory.
‘I had dinner last night with a supplier, a foreman, and an intern. Wasn’t in the best Mood, so I drank way too Much and ended up passing out right there at the table,‘ he admitted.
‘Honestly, I didn’t even know you tried to call. I came home because today was the day we were supposed to go to City Hall. When you didn’t answer my call, I got worried something might’ve happened, so I came back to check on you,‘ Jack said.
Jack sat up, grabbed his phone from the nightstand, checked his call history, and handed it over to me.
‘There’s no record of you calling,‘ he said.
I wasn’t all that surprised. Probably that trans migrator girl was messing around again.
‘Was there a girl at dinner last night?” I asked.
Jack paused for a couple of seconds before answering.
“The intern is a girl. She’s the daughter of My boss’s friend, and my boss asked me to show her the ropes, so she’s been hanging around me a lot lately,‘ he explained. ‘But she’s really innocent, and she’s got a boyfriend. She left early last night, so it shouldn’t be a problem… I’ll keep an eye on her, Jack added.
A wave of sadness hit me out of nowhere.
Jack kissed my forehead.
‘I’m sorry. I should’ve handled all this better. Just give me a little time, and I’ll figure it out,‘ he said softly.
I knew it wasn’t really his fault.
That trans migrator girl probably had some kind of cheat system. Doing sneaky stuff without anyone noticing was probably child’s play for her.
I hesitated for a Moment, then finally worked up the nerve to speak.
‘Do you believe in trans migration or rebirth?” I asked.
Jack let out a laugh. “Those things are just for stories. Don’t take them seriously. We only get one shot at life, so let’s make it count.”
I just stared at him, speechless.
‘Knew he wouldn’t buy it,‘ I thought.
But come to think of it, if that trans migrator girl still had to use someone to try and seduce me just to mess with My life, then even with her cheat system, she was not all–powerful after all.
If I stayed cautious and kept my guard up, there was a good chance I could avoid falling into her traps.
I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.
There were so many men out there, plenty of them rich and successful.
Why was that trans migrator girl so hung up on Jack, a Married guy?
Was he some kind of main character in this world or Something?
