I Was The New Boss, She Told Me To Take The Freight Elevator Chapter 09
Lia hurriedly moved closer to the livestream camera again. Her voice was completely panicked. “No!‘That
video is fake! I didn’t… Don’t believe it!”
But no one bought her explanation anymore.
The livestream was flooded with reports from viewers.
Not long after, a notification appeared on the screen:
[This livestream has been suspended due to violations.]
I pointed at the computer screen. “So? I’ve got plenty more. Not just the break room, but the office, the
conference room, even the hallway. Want to see those too?”
Only then did Briar finally come back to his senses.
He turned around and slapped Lia hard across the face.
“You seduced me! It’s all your fault!”
“You had to go live–now the whole board knows.
We’re both done!”
Lia covered her face. Her eyes instantly turned red.
“You hit me? What right do you have to hit me?”
“You told me I owned this place with you- that I could do anything!”
“You came to me first, Briar. And now you’re blaming me?”
“This wasn’t a one–time thing–we’ve been at this for
a while. You think you’re the only one who’s ruined here?”
Briar’s face twisted with anger. He pointed at her nose
and shouted, “You were the one who seduced me because you wanted to climb higher!”
“Who do you think you are? You were nothing but a
cleaner. What qualifications do you have to talk to me like this?”
Lia looked as if his words had stabbed right through
her. She rushed forward and grabbed his collar. “Briar!
What did you say? Say that again!”
The two of them started pushing and shoving each
other right in front of me. Neither of them looked at me anymore.
I watched them, not quite sure what to feel.
I was just tired.
I sat back down, picked up the phone on my desk, and
calmly dialed the internal line.
“Security, please send two people up. Someone needs
to be escorted out of the president’s office.”
Several minutes later, two tall security guards pushed open the office door.
Lia and Briar were still struggling with each other.
The guards stepped forward. One grabbed each of them and forcibly pulled them apart.
Lia immediately started struggling. She shouted at me, “Janessa! You have to take responsibility for me!”
I raised my head and looked at her calmly. “What do
you want me to take responsibility for?”
She froze. “Just… just… He cheated on you. It’s because you failed to control him!”
“That’s right! If you had kept a better eye on your man,
how would he have ended up with me?”
“And I’m pregnant now! You have to make Briar take responsibility!”
Pregnant?
I instinctively looked at Briar.
He looked just as caught off guard–clearly news to him too.
Lia continued. “Janessa, divorce him peacefully. Split the assets equally. That way, everyone can move on.”
“Otherwise, I’ll go to the board of directors! I’ll expose everything!”
I came back to my senses and let out a laugh.
“When a marriage falls apart, it’s never because someone failed to keep an eye on another person.”
“The only person responsible is the one who made that choice.”
“As for the child you mentioned, that’s between the two of you. It has nothing to do with me.”
Lia still wanted to say something. But the guards had already dragged both her and Briar out.
Her makeup was ruined from crying. She struggled and screamed the entire way. Her voice grew farther and farther away until it completely disappeared at the end of the hallway.
The office finally became quiet.
I leaned back in my chair. I closed my eyes for a
moment and took a deep breath.
I didn’t know how much time had passed when Kori knocked on the door and walked in. “Ms. Swain,
are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” I opened my eyes. “Take a seat.”
She sat across from me.
After hesitating for a moment, she finally spoke.
“I looked into it just now. There really were employees in the company who had been giving Lia benefits for a long time. They traded performance data for private favors. The employees involved are…”
She placed a list in front of me.
I picked it up and glanced through it.
“Aft
verything is verified, handle them according to company procedures. No exceptions.”
“Yes, Ms. Swain.” Kori nodded. Then she paused and
softened her voice. “Ms. Swain, today must have been really difficult for you.”
I shook my head.
“The company’s the one that lost–paying salaries to empty suits.”
