He Called Me ‘Jealous’ While She Hanged Off Him in a Bridal Party Chapter 02
Cody froze.
Tiffany snorted. “What are you worried about? She’s pregnant. Where’s she gonna go?”
“Oh my god, just say you want him to grovel. You girls
make everything so complicated. This is why I only hang out with guys.”
Cody snapped out of it. “Elena, don’t think being pregnant gives you the right to act like a brat. Haven’t I done enough for you?”
True, he used to be so good to me.
If he had a hundred bucks, he’d spend ninety–nine on me.
He worked three jobs–woke up at five in the morning for construction shifts–all just to prove
himself to my dad.
When I got pregnant, he swore through tears he’d work twice as hard to give me and our baby the best life.
Back then, I thought every sacrifice was worth it.
Until Tiffany came along. Then everything changed.
One call from her, and he’d ditch me while I was puking my guts out.
I was so weak from morning sickness I called him, begging for a ride to the hospital.
He said, “I’m out drinking with Tiffany. You know how she gets when she’s drunk–starts stripping. If I’m not there to watch her, something could happen.”
I went to the hospital alone.
The nausea nearly broke me, but I pushed through. I got home around ten and saw a hot bowl of soup on the counter. For a second, I thought he still cared.
I reached for it, and he came charging out. “Don’t touch that! That’s for Tiffany. She’s drunk and her stomach’s upset. She’s resting.”
The words stabbed me right in the chest.
I walked into the bedroom. The stench of alcohol hit
me like a wall. Tiffany was sprawled across the bed, vomit everywhere.
My voice shook. “That’s the bedding I spent months
picking out for our wedding night. It’s completely ruined. What am I supposed to do now?”
“It’s just bedding. If it’s dirty, we’ll replace it.”
The set I chose with so much care was nothing but a dirty rag in his eyes.
I stood there trembling, and he didn’t even look at me.
“Elena, I’ve got my hands full. Go grab her some
Pedialyte or something. She needs to sober up.”
I stared at him. “I’m pregnant. I just got back from the hospital. And you want me to wait on her?”
Cody didn’t spare me a glance. He bent down to pick up her clothes. “You’re pregnant, not dying. Don’t be so
delicate. What’s wrong with me looking out for my best friend?”
I stood in the doorway, so furious my blood ran cold.
That night, I slept at a hotel. Later, after scrolling through dozens of apology texts, I thought about the
baby and let myself soften.
But this time? No. I wouldn’t break. Because he was dead to me.
I ignored their noise and texted Nathaniel.
I barely hit send before Cody snatched my phone.
“Let’s see who you’re texting.”
“Don’t tell me it’s that arranged–marriage guy? Hate to break it to you, but it’s been so long, he’s forgotten all about you.”
“And look at you–you’re pregnant. Who else is gonna want you now?”
He read the screen. “Ten minutes out‘?” He glanced at the contact name. Nathaniel Sterling. “Wait–Sterling?
Unless…”
Even though he didn’t know Nathaniel was my former fiancé, my stomach still clenched.
“Wait, did you know I’ve been trying to land a deal with him? Is this your way of setting up a meeting for me?”
I froze.
His voice softened. “Elena, I knew you still loved me.
You just wanted me to make it up to you first, didn’t you?”
He reached for a hug. I stepped back.
“Give me my phone. I’m not setting up a meeting for you, and I’m not marrying you.”
He stepped closer, and I snatched my phone back.
This time, his patience snapped. “I’ve been breaking my back for this family! Can you just be reasonable for once?”
“When Mr. Sterling gets here, you better know when to keep your mouth shut. If you ruin this deal, don’t
blame me for what happens.”
Seeing my silence, he took it as compliance and his expression eased: “Fine. I’ll go wait by the door.”
The words barely left his mouth before the door swung open.
“No need. I found my own way in.”
